MAN AND SUPERMAN Plays Irish Repertory Theatre; Previews Begin Tonight

Irish Repertory Theatre and Gingold Theatrical Group are joining forces to present a co-production of Shaw's masterpiece, MAN AND SUPERMAN performed at the award-winning Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street), as part of Irish Rep's 24th Season and GTG's first-ever 'Shaw New York' festival, with previews to begin tonight, April 26, prior to an official press opening May 6. GTG's artistic director, David Staller, will direct his adaptation of this remarkable comedy, performed with its rarely seen 'interior play' DON JUAN IN HELL. (more...)

THE MERCHANT OF VENICE Wins 2011 AEA Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity Award

Actors' Equity Association (Equity) announced today that The Public Theater's acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE is the recipient of its Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2010-2011 Season. The Award will be presented at a reception at the Equity headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. In addition, Equity will receive a Mayoral Proclamation, presented by Commissioner Katherine Oliver, designating June 7th as Diversity on Broadway Day. (more...)

The Civilians (Steven Cosson, Artistic Director), the award-winning New York-based theatre company known for projects investigating real life topics, presents Let Me Ascertain You: Pretty Filthy, a one-night-only cabaret performance at Joe's Pub on March 4, 2011 at 9:30 PM. Back by popular demand after sold-out evenings in both NY and LA, the March cabaret offers even more enticing interviews from the company's unique exploration into the adult entertainment industry. Civilians' artists have been out in Vegas and California's San Fernando Valley talking to directors, performers, agents, and producers about the ins and outs of the dirty movie biz: how they do it and what it takes to make it. New excerpts from interviews with well-known adult entertainment figures, as well as new songs by Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson composer and lyricist, Michael Friedman will be performed by the talented cast. The Public Theater's acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, starring Al Pacino as Shylock and Lily Rabe as Portia, will conclude its successful Broadway run on Sunday, February 20 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The critically lauded production began at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park last summer and officially opened on Broadway on November 13. It recouped its capitalization after only 10 weeks and will be making its first profit distribution to investors next week.
