On May 4, the 2016 Tony nominees flocked to the Paramount Hotel, where they met with the press for the first time since getting the big news. An all-new edition of THEATER TALK shines the spotlight on Shuffle Along, or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, nominated for 10 Tony Awards (including Best Musical) at the Music Box Theatre - librettist/director George C. Wolfe (nominated for Best Book and Best Director of a Musical), Adrienne Warren (nominated as Best Featured Actress in a Musical in dual roles as Gertrude Saunders and Florence Mills) and Brandon Victor Dixon (nominated as Best Featured Actor in a Musical as composer Eubie Blake).  

The Broadway Sings concert series will continue at the Highline Ballroom its "Best Of Broadway Sings" concert, which will feature showstoppers from the series' previous 11 concerts. Some of Broadway's brightest, current talents, such as 2016 Tony Nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (Shuffle Along), Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town), and Alison Luff (Les Miserables), will sing completely new arrangements of the hits of pop superstars such as Adele, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, P!NK, Sara Bareilles, and Whitney Houston. Over 15 Broadway performers will be accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing unique, original orchestrations created for the acclaimed series.

A re-imagined version of the 1921 musical SHUFFLE ALONG, one of the earliest stage hits starring, written and directed by African-Americans, opened on April 28 on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre. The musical nabbed a total of 10 Tony nominations this year, including nods for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Featured Actor and Actress, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Direction, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center celebrated the 16th annual MonteCristo Award ceremony with a presentation of the honor to award-winning stage and film director, playwright, and actor George C. Wolfe on Monday night at the Edison Ballroom. The O'Neill annually bestows its Monte Cristo Award on a prominent theater artist whose lifetime work has had an extraordinary impact on American theater. The gala event supports the Center's commitment to developing new work and new artists for the stage.

All available seats for the newly-added Friday, April 1 performance of SHUFFLE ALONGhave been priced at $40. This performance ends a previously planned four-day hiatus period of the production. The producers of SHUFFLE ALONG are offering this low-priced ticket as a thank you to the musical's enthusiastic fans who lined up outside the Music Box Theatre's box office from Monday, March 21 to Thursday, March 24 for the chance to purchase same-day $40 rush tickets, but who were unable to do so since those performances were cancelled as a result of the illness of Audra McDonald, one of the musical's stars.

Performances begin tomorow, Tuesday, March 15, for SHUFFLE ALONG Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, the new production that presents both the 1921 musical itself, and additionally details the events that catalyzed the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles, to create this groundbreaking work. SHUFFLE ALONG has a new book and is directed by George C. Wolfe, choreographed by Savion Glover, and stars six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Tony Award winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter, and Tony Award nominees Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry, heading a cast of 34. Opening night is Thursday, April 28 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45 Street).

Just last night, the American Theatre Wing hosted its annual Gala at The Plaza Hotel (Fifth Avenue at Central Park South), honoring legendary actor James Earl Jones. Mr. Jones is a two-time Tony Award winner, two-time Obie Award winner and alumnus of the American Theatre Wing Professional School. CeCe Black, Anki Leeds, and Marva Smalls will serve as Gala Chairs.
