This week, 'Hamilton' actor, Daniel J. Watts, 'Shuffle Along' Tony- nominee, Brandon Victor Dixon, and 'Motown' actor, Warren Adams, partnered up to organize 'Broadway Circle Up- This Is How We Shoot Back' a video project that saw more than 100 members of the Broadway community meeting under the lights of the Minskoff Theatre to raise their voices in protest of the continuous cycle of prejudice and violence toward black citizens.

Last night he brought the Ellis Island audience to its feet with his performance as Coalhouse Walker, Jr. in Ragtime, and now he is gearing up for a new role. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, just weeks after finishing his run in SHUFFLE ALONG, two-time Tony Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon will join the cast of HAMILTON as Aaron Burr later this month.

Ellis Island got a little more Broadway last night, as Ragtime was presented in an invitation-only, one-night-only event, narrated by two-time Tony Award winner and original Ragtime Broadway cast member Brian Stokes Mitchell. The concert starred two-time Tony Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (Shuffle Along, Motown) as Coalhouse Walker Jr., Olivier Award winner Laura Michelle Kelly (Finding Neverland, Mary Poppins) as Mother, Emmy Award winner Michael Park(Dear Evan Hansen, Tuck Everlasting) as Father, acclaimed stage and television star Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening, Les Miserables) as Younger Brother, Shaina Taub (Hadestown, Old Hats) as Emma Goldman, Aisha Jackson (Waitress, Beautiful) as Sarah, and Robert Petkoff (All The Way,Ragtime) reprising his 2009 Broadway revival role of Tateh.

SHUFFLE ALONG will play its final Broadway performance today, July 24, 2016, the day six-time Tony-winning star Audra McDonald was already set to depart the production for a multi-month maternity leave. SHUFFLE ALONG began performances on March 15, 2016 and officially opened on April 28 at the Music Box Theatre. It will have played 38 previews and 100 regular performances by the time it ends. Ragtime On Ellis Island just announced that Tony Award winner and Original Broadway cast member Brian Stokes Mitchell (Shuffle Along, Man of La Mancha) and acclaimed stage and television star Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening, Les Miserables) have joined the lineup of the highly anticipated site-specific developmental concert on Monday, August 8. The all-star cast, directed by Sammi Cannold (Violet on a moving bus at A.R.T; Assistant Director for Diane Paulus & Rachel Chavkin), will perform a selection of songs from the Tony Award-winning musical that features music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and a book by Terrence McNally. The concert is being presented by Suzanne Friedman with an eye towards an immersive, full production of the acclaimed American musical on Ellis Island in 2017.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, two-time Tony Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon, who continues his Tony nominated role in SHUFFLE ALONG through July 24, will begin performances mid-August (date TBA) as Aaron Burr in Hamilton on Broadway. Dixon takes over for Tony winner Leslie Odom Jr., who played his final performance on Saturday, July 9.
