LA RUTA - a new play by Ed Cardona Jr. commissioned by Working Theater in 2011 -- will debut in an Off-Broadway production by Working Theater with preview performances starting April 10th and an official press opening on April 18th. Tamilla Woodard, known for her innovative site-specific work (HOTEL PROJECT), will direct the production. It has been announced by Mark Plesent, Working Theater's Producing Artistic Director.

Casting has been announced for the Cherry Lane Theatre's 2013 Mentor Project plays LAWNPEOPLE by Natalia Naman and EXILE by Nastaran Ahmadi. Both plays debut as part of Cherry Lane Theatre's 15th anniversary MENTOR PROJECT (38 Commerce St. in Manhattan), the award-winning season which began February 20 and concludes April 13.

The 2:30 matinee performance of LUZ -- Catherine Filloux's new play about gender-based violence and human rights violations in different parts of the world -- will be followed by a discussion with members of the human rights community, including Kate Doyle of The National Security Archive and winner of the ALBA/Puffin Award for Human Rights Activism, along with Dr. Marcia Esparza, who has conducted research in areas including state violence, genocide and memory-silence in the aftermath of mass killings.

LUZ, a world-premiere play by Catherine Filloux (DOG AND WOLF, LEMKIN'S HOUSE), opens tomorrow, Wednesday, October 4 at La MaMa's First Floor Theatre (74A East 4th St.). LUZ is a Watson Arts Project, which presents original theater with a particular emphasis on women. Directed by Jose Zayas and with music composed by Sergio R. Reyes, LUZ has a cast featuring Kim Brockington, Peter Jay Fernandez, Lynette R. Freeman, Bobby Plasencia, Steve Rishard, Kimber Riddle, Julissa Roman and Teresa Yenque.

INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) presents American Jornalero, a new play written by Ed Cardona, Jr., directed by Mariana Carreño-King, opening tonight, May 7 at 8 p.m. and continuing through June 3rd only, at INTAR (500 West 52nd Street at Tenth Avenue, on the 4th Floor). HERO Theatre announced today that the cast of the "King Lear" benefit staged reading starring Olympia Dukakis and directed by Austin Pendleton will include Louis Cancelmi (Sarah Kane's "Blasted" at Soho Rep), Lynn Cohen ("Sex and the City," Tina Howe's "Chasing Manet'), Dashiell Eaves ("Becky Shaw", "A Behanding In Spokane"), Paul Lazar (Classic Stage Company's "Three Sisters", "Silence of the Lambs") and George Morfogen ("Freud's Last Session", CSC's "Three Sisters", and HBO's "OZ"). The cast also includes Elisa Bocanegra, Seth Duerr, Korey Jackson, Albert Jones, Thomas Kopache, James Martinez, Desiree Matthews, Anya Migdal, Liam Mitchell and Bobby Plasencia.
