Geffen Playhouse Adds SWITZERLAND, THE NIGHT ALIVE and Two More Shows to Its 2014-15 Season

The Geffen Playhouse has announced four plays for the eight-play 2014-2015 season, including the Co-World Premiere, with the Sydney Theatre Company, of the Geffen commissioned, Switzerland, written by Joanna Murray-Smith (The Female of the Species); the West Coast Premieres of The Night Alive, written by Olivier and Evening Standard Award winner and Tony nominee Conor McPherson (The Weir, The Seafarer) and directed by Geffen Artistic Director Randall Arney; and The Power of Duff, written by Stephen Belber and directed by Peter DuBois (Rapture, Blister, Burn); and The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord, written by Scott Carter.

ImprovBoston and The Bridge Center join together to share the power of laughter for the Fifth Annual Comedy For A Cause event. ImprovBoston's National Touring Company brings their unique brand of fast-paced, high energy, interactive comedy to create a one-of-a-kind show at 7:00pm on April 28 at the Wilbur Theater. One of the largest fundraisers of the year for The Bridge Center, all proceeds are dedicated to building their suite of year-round programs and services to benefit children with special needs.
ImprovBoston to Offer Free Tickets to Greater Boston First Responders, 4/16-20

All ImprovBoston shows the week of April 16-20 will be free for first responders. The nonprofit comedy arts organization celebrates the heroic acts of the city's first responders that saved so many lives and united a city one year ago this Tuesday. ImprovBoston will also collect donations for the One Fund during shows. As a 501(c)3 theater serving the community through laughter, the members of the ImprovBoston community believe in the power of laughter to bring together communities. As Artistic Director Mike Descoteaux puts it, 'ImprovBoston's mission is to improve the lives of diverse audiences both onstage and off. We acknowledge and give back to the heroes that made such a powerful contribution that day and every day.' First responders will have free access to more than 20 shows over the course of April 16-20. Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for Alan Ayckbourn's science fiction comedy Communicating Doors. Eleven plays penned by Alan Ayckbourn have been produced by the Alley, including the American premiere of Henceforward, directed by Ayckbourn, in 1987 and House & Garden in 2002. Alan Ayckbourn has been inducted into the American Theatre's Hall of Fame, received the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for Services to the Arts, became the first British playwright to receive both Olivier and Tony Special Lifetime Achievement Awards and was knighted in 1997 for services to the theatre.

HBO remembers David Brenner with an encore presentation of his 2000 HBO solo special 'David Brenner: Back with a Vengeance,' which can be seen tonight, March 20 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on the HBO Comedy channel. In addition, the special will be available on HBO GO starting this Wednesday, March 19, through Wednesday, April 30.
