My mother took me to the ballet when I was young. I came home with a souvenir bouquet and would not stop listening or dancing to the score, imagining a giant Christmas tree and those nasty rats scurrying across my living room floor. I like to imagine the magic of theatre and the arts creating that same wonder for people all over the world.

His early career in stand?up brought him to the top of his ranks and over time, he broadened the scope of opportunities so others could share in his brilliantly warped world. Comedy Central has recognized Mr. Lewis as one of the top 50 stand-up comedians of all time and he was charted on GQ Magazine's list of the '20th Century's Most Influential Humorists'. In December of 1989, Lewis achieved a very personal goal...he performed at Carnegie Hall to a standing room only audience.

Premium entertainment network EPIX, announced today that it has set Today, December 6, at 10 PM ET, as the premiere date for the Original Documentary The Improv: 50 Years Behind the Brick Wall. In this one-hour special, narrated by Adam Sandler, the biggest names in stand-up comedy reveal the role the storied comedy club, the Improv, played in their road to stardom. At times poignant, insightful and always funny, the special uses comics' personal stories, home movies, photographs, and archival footage to weave a story fifty years in the making.

UP Comedy Club is known for bringing the best stand-up comedy talent in the country to Chicago. This winter's line-up features many of the best known names in comedy today, including Jo Koy, Godfrey, Brian Posehn, Tom Papa and Greg Fitzsimmons. Each show includes a feature stand-up comic and a local emcee that hosts the evening. This winter, audiences can also enjoy The Second City's hilarious holiday revue, Miracle on Wells Street through December 31, 2013. Dinner will be available before and during the show.

Annabelle Gurwitch (Dinner and a Movie, You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up, Fired!) is adapting her third book, the forthcoming memoir, I SEE YOU MADE AN EFFORT (Blue Rider Press, March 2014) into a theatrical property, following the success of her past two book to plays: You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up and Fired! A sneak preview of the work in progress is scheduled for Nuyorican Poets Cafe (236 East 3rd Street) tonight, November 12th at 9pm.

2013 NYCF Celebrates 10 Years Today

This year The New York Comedy Festival (NYCF), presented in association with COMEDY CENTRAL, marks its 10th anniversary today, November 6 through Sunday, November 10. The festival will once again bring laughs to all the boroughs in New York City, and adding several new venues. The 2013 festival line-up will be announced in August, at which time tickets will also go on sale. Additional shows will be added in the fall.
