t's one of those old musicals with a few memorable tunes and a ridiculous plot that would find it difficult to stand on a modern stage otherwise, but solid performances anchored by Blackhurst make Goodspeed's production an enjoyable romp through turn-of-the-century New York. Goodspeed announced a week's extension to the run before it even had begun.

On the heels of strong box office and the best reviews of the season, the producers ofBuyer & Cellar, starring Michael Urie ("Ugly Betty"), written by Jonathan Tolins, and directed by Stephen Brackett, have announced that the hit off-Broadway comedy will now play an open-ended run at the Barrow Street Theatre. Tickets are now on sale through Sunday, October 13.

Out rapper and singer/songwriter, Solomon celebrates the release of his latest single, 'The Way We Were' with a new artistic lyric video on VEVO. One year after premiering his single, 'Life Goes On...' with Out Magazine and spending countless weeks on the front of iTunes Dance page, the artist reinvents himself once again by jumping genres and crafting a heartfelt song. The single, a play on the 1973 Sydney Pollack film starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford of the same title, featuring interpolations from the film, was featured last week on Rdio's New Music Weekly page. While Solomon has always been an open book, 'The Way We Were' blows the door wide open to his personal life and upcoming debut album.

The Major League Baseball All-Star break (the game is on Tuesday night) has always been considered the midpoint of the season and as a lifelong fan I've always enjoyed reading those analyses from writers that assess the best performances of the first half. Since July is also the middle of the calendar year, I thought it might be fun to present a cabaret equivalent of a baseball midseason report. So . . . "The Hebrew Hillbilly", written by and performed by singer-songwriter Shelley Fisher in a one-woman cabaret style concert at a 2 PM matinee performance today, July 7th at Arthur Newman Theatre in The Joslyn Center Theater in Palm Desert. The show chronicles Ms. Fisher's Hollywood odyssey that begins in the heart of the Mississippi Delta in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Shelley grew up surrounded by Rockin' Roll, Blues, and Bar B Que with a flamboyant but very Jewish mother who frowned on her dating the local redneck boys. But that never stopped her dreams from an early age of being a Hollywood star and she has been singing since before she could walk.
