On Sunday afternoon, Long Beach Opera (LBO) presented the world premiere of its adaptation of Henry Purcell's semi-opera King Arthur at the Beverly O'Neill Theater. A semi-opera refers to a Restoration entertainment that combines a spoken play with musical episodes that involvolomot, Darryl Taylor, e singing and dancing. Purcell's best known semi-operas are King Arthur and The Fairy-Queen. LBO presented its version of the latter in 2017. 

Long Beach Opera presents a new production of Purcell's King Arthur --- a collaboration with Chicano provocateurs CULTURE CLASH and the authentic sounds of LA 's premiere Baroque orchestra MUSICA ANGELICA -- in January 2020 for only three performances at Long Beach's Beverly O'Neill Theatre.  Performances are Sunday January 12, Saturday January 18 and Sunday, January 19.

Manhattan born Arthur Miller is one of the most highly esteemed American playwrights. He is recognized for his insight and keen perception into the tribulations of the American working class. His play Death of a Salesman won Miller the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1949. Miller's other best known works include The Man Who Had All The Luck, A View From the Bridge, and After The Fall.

The 60th Anniversary Music Circus season opens with 'Spamalot,' the 2005 Tony Award-winning musical, as the first show in the 2010 60th Anniversary season. Playing for an extended run at the Wells Fargo Pavilion July 9 -18, the production features a stellar cast that includes Broadway veteran Gary Beach, who will be playing the lead role of King Arthur.

Casting for the 60th Music Circus season is nearing completion. After auditioning performers in New York, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale is finalizing the acting company for the seven-show season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion. The company is expected to include Broadway veterans, including Tony Award nominees, television comedians, up-and-coming young actors and plenty of returning Music Circus favorites. Direct from a tour stop at The Arsht Center in Miami, Tony Award­winner and Broadway favorite Gary Beach will star as King Arthur, headlining the national tour of Monty Python's Spamalot at the Kravis Center March 11 - 16 presented by Stanford Broadway Across America - Palm Beach and Florida Theatrical Association.
