TACT/The Actor's Company Theatre celebrated the remarkable success of its 2009/10 season and honored the accomplishments of one of the country's most renowned and recognizable actors, Sam Waterston, at its annual spring gala on Monday, May 3rd at The Edison Ballroom. The celebratory evening kicked off at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction. TACT Co-Artistic Director and company member Simon Jones served as master of ceremonies and introduced the evening's entertainment. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the starry arrivals.

The Awesome 80s Prom now in its 6th year at the famed club Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street), will welcome Dustin Diamond, best known as Screech from the hit TV series 'Saved by the Bell,' beginning May 21st, for six weeks only, through June 26th. Davenport has been busy revising the script and creating a special role for Diamond to play, the role of Dustin Diamond, himself.

On THE VIEW Today, when asked about the prospect of her appearing on stage, Gwyneth Paltrow (who was on promoting her new movie, IRON MAN) said that it's something she'd like to do but 'not right now.' She then turned to THE VIEW co-host Whoopi Goldberg and expressed a desire for Whoopi to return to the stage. Paltrow's name (and her mother - Blythe Danner) had been bandied around as a rumored replacements for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones, currently starring in the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music, led the all-star cast performing in Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday celebration on April 26 at New York City Center. Like Lansbury and Zeta-Jones, all of the performers have either originated Sondheim characters or performed them in notable revivals. As a group, the gala's performers have appeared in more than 75 Sondheim shows. The gala, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, highlighted numbers from shows for which Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and featured a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Sondheim.

Beagle, iconic American fantasy author best known for his international bestseller The Last Unicorn, will be presented on stage in the World Premiere of GIANT BONES. Written and directed by acclaimed Bay Area playwright Stuart Bousel, GIANT BONES is based on four of Beagle's short stories, as told by a traveling troupe of actors in a distant land. On May 6th, CAP21 (Collaborative Arts Project 21) will transform its block box theater 'The Shop' into Europe during WWI, the backdrop for Fengar Gael's 'The Usher's Ball'. The play will have a month long run in May, as part of CAP21's Spring/Summer season.
