The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) will present 'Black Dance Rising,' its 28th Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks In Dance, January 20-24, 2016. Hosted by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, the event will bring together the dance world's elite and emerging in celebration of dance from the African Diaspora, as well as provide educational and professional development opportunities.
Twin Sisters Riya & Sara Kapoor Jazz Up Traditional Indian Ceremony at Lincoln Center Tonight

Twin sisters Riya and Sara Kapoor will make their Rangapravesh, or onstage debut, tonight, December 12, 2015 at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in a show they have entitled 'A Night of Moves.' In the ceremony, the girls will perform the traditional Bharatantayam dance form accompanied by a Carnatic Orchestra, a classical South Indian Musical genre, and a New York Jazz Quartet. This performance will mark the first time this ancient tradition will be done in its current format and choreography.

On Friday, December 4th, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater unveiled Robert Battle's Awakening, his first world premiere since becoming Artistic Director. Grammy-award winning singer Lauryn Hill was in attendance for the debut of the powerful work in which a dozen Ailey dancers lead the audience on a cathartic journey of dissonance and harmony, chaos and resolution. Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel today announced the creative teams for New York City Center's 2016 Encores! season. J. Bernard Calloway, Chuck Cooper, Marva Hicks, Carly Hughes, LaChanze, Norm Lewis, Forrest McClendon, and J.D. Webster will star in Vernon Duke and John Latouche's jazz?filled fable Cabin in the Sky, running for seven performances at City Center from February 10-14. The 1940 musical will be directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago?Hudson with choreography by Camille A. Brown.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with an Opening Night Gala Benefit. The one-night-only benefit performance and party honored BNY Mellon for its major support of the Ailey Organization since 2007, and Agnes & Gerald Hassell accepted on the institution's behalf. Film star Chadwick Boseman and actress and Grammy-Award winning artist Brandy served as Honorary Chairs, and the event's co-chairs were Simin Allison, Kathryn & Kenneth Chenault, Debra L. Lee, Doris & Gilbert Meister, Daria L. & Eric J. Wallach and Joan & Sandy Weill. $2.5 million was raised in support of the creation of new works, scholarships to The Ailey School, and Ailey's extensive educational programs for young people.
