A sold out crowd filled the Avalon Hollywood Theatre on Sunday night, April 11th for the 42nd annual Academy of Magical Arts Awards. The evening was not only hosted, but also co-produced by the popular Neil Patrick Harris. The evenings color commentary was offered by the always-funny Jason Alexander.

A slew of celebrities are joining forces to demand that legendary actress Carol Channing be selected for the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors. Among those voicing their support for the nomination are Lily Tomlin, Chita Rivera, Phyllis Diller, Lucie Arnaz, Buzz Aldrin, Kate Linder, Tommy Tune, Loni Anderson, Alison Arngrim, Tippi Hedren and Congress Woman Jackie Speier. As previously reported, on November 2nd, The Academy of Magical Arts lauched a week long celebration of Magic for the 100th anniversary of the structure known today as The Magic Castle, culminating in a show at the Kodak Theatre, IT's MAGIC!, on Nov 8th.

On Monday, August 24 at 7:30PM, the First National Touring Company of WICKED will host DEFYING INEQUALITY, an evening of cabaret performances promoting equality and civil rights. Held at the Birch North Park Theatre, and produced by company members of WICKED, the event will feature members of the cast and crew as well as guest performers. This one-night only event will benefit Equality California, Empire State Pride Agenda, Garden State Equality and Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force, four non-profit charitable organizations working to legislate equality and protect civil rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. All proceeds will be distributed evenly among the four organizations. DEFYING INEQUALITY is an evening intended for mature audiences.
