At a press conference held at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 235 nominations for the 42nd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which recognize excellence in professional theatre, dance and opera in Toronto.

When an organization reaches a milestone like 50 years, it can be easy to look back at everything that brought you to that milestone. While Des Moines Metro Opera's productions of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and PORGY AND BESS do that, they are also looking at the future with the world premiere production of A THOUSAND ACRES. If this production indicates what Des Moines Metro Opera has planned for the future, then I'm sure we will see them around for another 50 years and more.

The RCM has announced its lineup of concerts from May through August, including Live Life Now, Live Music Again @ Koerner Hall, two formidable cellists with two formidable pianists in one weekend Sheku Kanneh Mason with Isata Kanneh Mason Gautier Capuçon with Jean-Yves Thibaudet/ Other classical concerts include Joshua Bell with Peter Dugan Anne Sofie von Otter with Christoph Berner

The season includes four mainstage productions at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Carmen, La traviata, The Shining, and Sondheim on Sondheim in addition to live performances of the holiday classic, Amahl and the Night Visitors and the Kansas City premiere of Listen, Wilhelmina!, an imaginative children's opera at the Michael and Ginger Frost Production Arts Building. All Kauffman Center performances will be accompanied by the Kansas City Symphony.

The cornerstone of the Festival will be a spotlight on the Kronos Quartet, who will participate in three events, and world premiere of Gould's Wall, presented in collaboration with Tapestry Opera and Maniac Star.

Des Moines Metro Opera's General and Artistic Director Michael Egel announced today the repertory for the company's 50th Anniversary Season alongside the launch of the public phase of a $15 million fundraising campaign, 50 Next: Giving Voice to the Future.

The opera recounts the epic love story of Roman Emperor Hadrian and his young lover, Antinous. Erased by history, their story is reclaimed for the 21st century by its creators in a star-studded production from renowned Canadian director Peter Hinton. Hadrian runs for seven performances through October 27, 2018.

The Opéra de Montréal has an exciting 39th season planned for the 2018-2019 production year. The Place des Arts lineup includes classics like Rigoletto, Das Rheingold, Carmen and the anticipated Canadian premiere of the jazz-opera Champion. In addition to these four operas, a chamber opera called Twenty-Seven will be presented at the Centaur Theatre and a concert with soprano Joyce El-Khoury and Pianist Laurent Philippe will be held at the Festival du Monde Arabe.

This production, which features new sets and costumes by the Utah Opera Production Studios, uses traditional, theatrical staging designed to be economically viable and practical for a wide range of companies.
