Burning Coal's 2023 Oakwood Cemetery Series to Present BUTTERFLY WINGS Beginning in September
Burning Coal Theatre Company will present the premiere of Jerome Davis' Butterfly Wings adapted from the book Life and Death in High Places by Bruce Miller and Robin Simonton, directed by Allison Acuff. Butterfly Wings will run September 29th and 30th at 6:30 pm and October 1st at 2 pm, 2023, at the Oakwood Cemetery, located at 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601.

BWW Interview: A Special Two Part Theatre Life with Howard Shalwitz. Part One: The Early Years
Today's subject was kind enough to give me an hour of his time in the balcony of the place he lived his theatre life for almost 40 years. I'm sure there isn't a person here in DC who would argue that Howard Shalwitz was one of the most influential minds in the DC theatre community as the Artistic Director of Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. Under Shalwitz, Woolly Mammoth produced some of the most thought provoking, wild, and sometimes shocking pieces of theatre this area has ever seen. Shalwitz stepped down in 2018 and the company is now run by Maria Manuela Goyanes. Mr. Shalwitz remains as Artistic Director Emeritus.

The University of New Mexico's Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce the world premiere 1n2ian ('Indian') by Jay B. Muskett, a 3rd year student in UNM's award winning MFA in Dramatic Writing Program. 1n2ian, directed by Gleason Bauer, will be presented as part of the 2019 Linnell Festival of New Plays, with performances April 11 through 14, 2019 in Rodey Theatre on UNM's Main Campus. This year's Festival also includes directed readings of new works by 2nd year MFA playwrights Aniello Fontano and Nelle Tankus as well as a reading by 1st year MFA playwright Shannon Flynn. A special addition the year will be a fully staged new play for young audiences, (Don't You) Forget About Me, created in collaboration with DATA High School.

The Burning Coal Theatre Company is proud to present Conor McPherson's The Weir, the story of what happens on a seemingly quiet evening in a rural Irish pub when the local boys are visited by a stranger. Directed by Jerome Davis, The Weir will play at Burning Coal's Murphey School Auditorium in downtown Raleigh from November 29th through December 16th. There will be a "pay what you can day" on Sunday December 2nd. Performances are November 29, 30 and December 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15 at 7:30 pm and December 2, 9 & 16th at 2 pm. Tickets are available now for $25, with a senior discount (65+) at $20, a student, teachers, and active military discount at $15 and student rush tickets for $5 (if available) at curtain. Those interested can secure their tickets online at burningcoal.org or by calling the box office at 919.834.4001.

The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) announced today that Mia Rovegno and Mia Walker have been named this year's recipients of The Drama League's Directing Fellowship in Film and Television, which gives early- and mid-career theater directors their first opportunities to shadow on professional film and television projects. Ms. Rovegno and Ms. Walker will receive financial support, travel allowances, expert mentors, and a shadow directing assignment as part of their fellowship.
