101 never looked so good! Navy Pier, Chicago's mission-driven cultural district, is celebrating its 101st Birthday on Saturday, July 15 with a star-studded bash and full day of free cultural programming in the new Polk Bros Park Performance Lawns from 11 a.m. through the Aon Summer Fireworks Show at 10:15 p.m.
Wolf Trap recently hosted the innovative Native Pride Dancers for a demonstration of Native American dance, a fascinating hour featuring young, dedicated performers. There is enough variety and information to ensure that the young people in attendance would learn a tremendous amount about the cultures populated North America long before Europeans arrived-and get on-stage to join in the dance themselves!
In an event described with 'rainbow-colored headdresses, pulsating drumming, and fancy footwork are part of the excitement of a Native American powwow. World Champion Fancy Dancer Larry Yazzie and the Native Pride Dancers bring this excitement to the SteppingStone Theatre stage. They perform flamboyant movements passed down by their ancestors and sacred songs from the Northern Plains.'
