Navy Pier Celebrates 101st Birthday with Free Star-Studded Concert

101 never looked so good! Navy Pier, Chicago's mission-driven cultural district, is celebrating its 101st Birthday on Saturday, July 15 with a star-studded bash and full day of free cultural programming in the new Polk Bros Park Performance Lawns from 11 a.m. through the Aon Summer Fireworks Show at 10:15 p.m.

Wolf Trap recently hosted the innovative Native Pride Dancers for a demonstration of Native American dance, a fascinating hour featuring young, dedicated performers.   There is enough variety and information to ensure that the young people in attendance would learn a tremendous amount about the cultures populated North America long before Europeans arrived-and get on-stage to join in the dance themselves!

The Guthrie will present Northern Lights/Southern Cross: Tales from the Other Side of the World, an international collaboration between Interact Theater and Australia's Tutti Ensemble, companies both comprised largely of artists with disabilities. An epic tale spanning cultures and hemispheres, acclaimed actor/playwright/storyteller Kevin Kling shares his story of personal growth and rebirth, in the production directed by Interact artistic director Jeanne Calvit, with original music by Tutti Ensemble's Pat Rix. Northern Lights/Southern Cross: Tales from the Other Side of the World will run October 22 - November 8 in the Dowling Studio.
