The World Premiere of 5 & Dime, a new musical based on the classic play Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, will be produced by Tony Award recipient theatre company TheatreWorks Silicon Valley.

June 12th and 13th saw the presentation of a concert titled 5 & DIME: A NEW MUSICAL at Joe's Pub, and Broadway World Cabaret has a photo essay of the show.

Now the property is evolving into a musical.  And you know what?  It works.

Joe’s Pub will present two first-look performances of the new musical 5 & Dime, with a book by Ashley Robinson, music by Dan G. Sells and lyrics by transgender actress and activist, Shakina.

Shakina Nayfack announced today that her performance re-opening night of Feinstein's/54 Below will feature new songs from a musical collaboration with Dan. G. Sells, composer of the West End hit “Everybody's Talking About Jamie.” 

Nebraska Wesleyan University Theatre takes us back and forth between 1955 and 1975 to the Five and Dime in McCarthy, Texas. The Disciples of Jimmy Dean are meeting to commemorate his untimely death in a car crash. Instead of contributing any new Jimmy Dean memorabilia to their collection, they uncover secrets long kept and truths about themselves.

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, in residence at CCBC Essex, will perform Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean by playwright Ed Graczyk, July 21 through August 5. All performances will be held at the Robert and Eleanor Romadka College Center, Cabaret Theatre, on the Essex campus, 7201 Rossville Boulevard.

What happens when a group of teenagers idolize a celebrity - a figure from popular culture whose charisma ensures he will live on forever despite his death at a young age - reunite some 20 years later to further venerate their crush and to recall his impact on their young lives? The Central Ohio Theatre Critics Circle has presented its 22nd annual citations for outstanding achievements in theater. Rather than focusing on competitive annual 'best' categories, the circle annually honors local individuals or groups whose work 'promotes the higher values of theater' or 'expands the possibilities of theater. All citations, presented Sunday night, January 31, 2016 during the Theater Roundtable's 16th annual Theater Awards Night at the Jewish Community Center, reflect a consensus of central Ohio theater critics:
