Ghostlight Productions and Nicely Theatre Group are partnering  once again, for the 2nd Annual Obsidian Theatre Festival.  After a successful inaugural year in the middle of a global pandemic, Obsidian is back and will include live and virtual offerings.

Nicely Theatre Group has announced the cast for its March 2022 production of the Tony Award-winning classic musical comedy Anything Goes. Nicely Creative Director Mitch Master directs with choreography by Allison Hunt-Kaufmann and vocal and music direction by Amy Sauve.

Sloan’s Ghostlight Productions announced that they are partnering with BroadwayHD to bring the inaugural Obsidian Festival to viewers for free via the streaming service’s YouTube channel.  The Obsidian Theatre Festival is a virtual theatre and performing arts event featuring emerging Black artists, actors, directors, and playwrights from Detroit.

A production of “Guys & Dolls” spurred David Carroll to pursue starting a new theatre group in January of 2020. Musical theatre was a passion he shared with his father, though usually from the audience. In 2019, he joined the Birmingham Village Players in several small roles in “Guys & Dolls” and was inspired by the all the local talent and wanted to provide more opportunities for cast and crew to work and get paid for it. Soon after, Nicely Theatre Group (named for “Guys & Dolls character Nicely-Nicely) was born.

The 196 seat theater-in-the-round is located at 444 East Pipeline Road in Hurst.Performances are at 7:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with 3:00pm matinees on Saturdays beginning April 20. Reserved seating tickets are $28.00 for adults, $26.00 for students and seniors, and $16.00 for children 12 and under.  Monday through Thursday tickets are $26.00 for adults and $14.00 for children 12 and under. Well, the next step in my decluttering/digitizing journey is throwing out my Chess CDs, not that they take up much space. I only have the Original Concept Recording and the Broadway cast. I'm going to download the freaking 2008 Royal Albert Hall concert version (with Idina Menzel, Josh Groban and Adam Pascal) to try to keep this column hip. But let's all just remember two things: 1.) I am not hip; and, 2.) I'm just downloading the concert for this column, so it doesn't really count as part of my digitizing.

Today's subject Judy Kuhn has been living her theatre life as a working actress/singer/recording artist for over thirty years. On May 5th you will be able to see this incredible Tony-nominated talent live in concert at Dumbarton Church in Georgetown as part of the Dumbarton Concerts series. The program is entitled Judy Kuhn: A Broadway Cabaret.

REPRISE 2.0 is now announced, presenting a season of three classic American musicals at UCLA's Freud Playhouse, by Marcia Seligson, Producing Artistic Director of the new performing arts organization.  REPRISE 2.0 is partnering with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television's Department of Theater (UCLA TFT), chaired by Brian Kite. 

The Benny Anderson-Tim Rice-Bj rn Ulvaeus musical Chess, which began life as a two-LP recording in 1984, will be presented at 7:30 PM on March 10th, 2018 at the Madison Theatre at Molloy College in Rockville Center, NY.
