BWW Review: Women-Centric JULIUS CAESAR at GLT is Bloody-Good

Sara Bruner has proven once again that she is the queen of Shakespeare staging. As she did last season with her 'The Taming of the Shrew,' her women-centric version of 'Julius Caesar,' which is now on stage at Great Lakes Theater, is creative, well-formulated and long on clear message development.

BWW Review: THE MUSIC MAN Gets Fresh, Dynamic, Engaging Production at GLT

We are in the midst of 'The Music Man' blizzard. In the last year, Porthouse Theatre and The Shaw Festival have done the show, and a Broadway production starring Hugh Jackman as Harold Hill, will begin performances on October 15, 2020. Two-time Tony Award-winning superstar, Sutton Foster, will co-star as Marian the librarian. The production will be directed by four-time Tony Award winner, Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle.

Great Lakes Theater's Fall Repertory begins with the Tony-winning Broadway musical classic, 'There's trouble in River City...' when Harold Hill, a fast-talking salesman, attempts to con its citizens into purchasing instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he never fully intends on forming. That is until, Marian, the prim town librarian, catches on to his scheme and the two fall into an unlikely romance that is the foil to all of Harold's plans. This six-time, Tony-winning musical, which features cherished numbers such as 'Seventy-Six Trombones,' 'Ya Got Trouble' and 'Till There Was You,' is the perfect musical comedy for all ages.

Jane Austen's classic romantic comedy, Pride and Prejudice completes GLT's Fall Repertory pairing. While everyone around her is pressuring marriage, the outspoken Elizabeth Bennet is barely interested - until she meets the handsome, enigmatic Mr. Darcy, that is. Despite finding themselves unwittingly and unwillingly attracted to one another, will Mr. Darcy's pride and Elizabeth's prejudice undo the fledgling romance before the relationship blossoms? Fearless, funny and utterly irresistible, Jane Austen's classic is sure to steal the hearts of audiences.

BWW Reviews: ISF's STEEL MAGNOLIAS Made of Heart

Idaho Shakespeare Festival's (ISF) final show of the season is STEEL MAGNOLIAS by Robert Harling and directed by Sari Ketter. This is a great show to go into the fall with when life becomes busy with school starting and work getting down to business with the end of the fiscal year, that time of year where you start to not pay attention around you. STEEL MAGNOLIAS makes you realize you have to take time to appreciate the people around you and the friendships you make.

BWW Reviews: ME AND MY GIRL - Madcap Midsummer Mirth

Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston brings back this crowd-pleasing British musical comedy about a cockney gent who learns that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford, but must choose between love and money. Director/Choreographer Cynthia Thole appeared in the original Broadway revival of ME AND MY GIRL and transmits her familiarity with the show to an exuberant cast, led by engaging, talented Peabody native Joshua Holden.
