Lyric Theatre in Oklahoma City begins classes for its Lyric Theatre Academy on August 23rd. The 2010 Fall classes include a variety of subjects such as: Musical Theatre Production, Introduction to Musical Theatre, Theatre Magic, Acting/ Character Study, Introduction to Music Theory, Ballet, Tap, Theatre Dance, Dance Magic, Private Voice and Private Acting coaching sessions. Enrollment and more information can be found at the website: http://www.lyrictheatreokc.com

Starting this semester, Lyric is offering fun and exciting new classes such as, "RoKademY" and the All-State Audition Master Class. In the RoKademY class, students will create their own "Rock Musical" under the direction rock composer, performer and musician Matthew Alvin Brown. The All-State Master Class is a great class for junior high and high school students to learn technical aspects of the 2010-2011 Oklahoma All-State audition songs including foreign language pronunciation and singing techniques.

The Musical Theatre Production classes perform two productions in its entirety - complete with sets, costumes, props, lighting, and sound. The shows that the academy will be showing in November are Bye Bye Birdie and Little Red: The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood, an original musical written by Lyric's Director of Education, Stephen Hilton.

The ThElma Gaylord Academy and Lyric Production Center are housed in a joint facility, one block west of the Plaza Theatre. Officially named in 2006 to honor one of Lyric's founders, the ThElma Gaylord Academy has grown over eight years to become an outstanding resource for Oklahoma's youth. While a small number of Academy graduates go on to musical theatre careers, all students benefit from stellar professional training. The Academy offers wonderful opportunities to develop skills in teamwork, leadership, public speaking, and, of course, to build friendships and have fun.

Lyric's Arts Outreach Program, "Musical Interactive", currently reaches more than 30,000 schoolchildren. Arts outreach presentations in public and private school classrooms, offered free-of-charge to interested schools, provide a creative and highly effective teaching tool when combined with standard core curriculum.

The current program is "1776 Interactive," a historically accurate depiction of events surrounding the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence. A cast of 5 actors play the characters of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and others. Each student receives a study guide with games and puzzles, while teachers have access to accompanying classroom activity resource guide to help them prepare or follow-up after the presentation.
