Lies, anger and Forgiveness
What begins as the story of an immigrant trying to quit smoking, eventually turns into a journey through the depth of the human condition, while writer and actor Barbara Saba challenges the widely accepted concept of relationships between people, and their nuances.
“The audience seems to feel relieved at the end of the show, as if I gave voice to their thoughts – shameful thoughts, they would never have the courage to say out loud,” Saba says.
In the opening scene we’re introduced to Saba and her suitcase, placed by her side, while she holds a packet of cigarettes in her pocket. She’s saying goodbye to her hometown, Rome, and to her family, as she pursues the American dream based on her talent and creativity.
In Los Angeles, she finds an Italian-born therapist who helps her ditch the smokes. This therapy session takes an unexpected turn, accompanying the audience on a journey into Saba’s Roman childhood and adolescence times.
Then there’s the covid-19 pandemic: another moment of truth for her, as she navigates through decisions she has to make about her past as well as her future.
From the show: “Have you ever felt like you weren’t in sync with the events of your life? Like, if you were always a little too early or just a little too late to your present? Unable to decide… to play. Like in the worst nightmare, you’re in danger and you feel scared. You try to scream and the voice doesn’t come out from your mouth. No one can hear you.”

Critics noted Saba’s artistry and authenticity as engaging and dynamic stage presence with a captivating story to share. Lies, Anger, and Forgiveness has graced stages across the country, garnering accolades at every stop. Most recently, Saba and her show were awarded the Critic’s Choice Award at the Orlando Fringe Festival.
The show is written and performed by Barbara Saba, and directed by Debra De Liso.

Short Blurb
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to start a journey without knowing where to go, but most importantly, having no specific destination? Imagine just wondering, wandering and dreaming of a place where you can soothe your soul and heal your own wounds... in silence.
Long Blurb
I decided to gift myself something special for my 40th year on Earth: I gave myself the chance to be happy. I gave myself the opportunity to get rid of the weight on my back. I gave myself the gift of being silent in a babel of voices, where everyone seems to mingle in the tragic solitude of their own language, to finally feel less lonely. Distance gave me a different perspective on the “bidimentional pain” that entangled my entire existence.
“Have you ever felt like you weren’t in sync with the events of your life? Like if you were always a little too early or just a little too late to your present? Unable to decide, to play. Like in the worst nightmare, you’re in danger and you feel scared. You try to scream and the voice doesn’t come out from your mouth. No one can hear you. "
This is my story, made of violence and compassion, of love and resentment, lace and ropes, stuck in the folds of a past that never stops being present.
Until I eventually found out that forgiveness is the only way to the future.

Born and raised in Rome, she is the daughter of a Sicilian mother and a Sardinian father. With a degree in Philosophy earned at the La Sapienza University of Rome, Saba claims her senior year and the chance to attend classes at the Mirafiori Villa are some of the happiest moments of her life. “Barbarella” has studied ballet for 13 years while in Rome, followed by tears, sweat and pride. To Ballet she owes that discipline she can still feel inside of her, at times, and a perfect posture, along with ugly feet and an awful sense of body image. She studied theater in Rome with Franco Mannella at “La palestra dell’Attore” (lit. the Actor’s Gym), and at the “Scuola di Cinema di Via Panisperna”; she keeps on studying, attending workshops and masterclass for continuous learning. In 2012 she starts wearing the hat of a rockstar. She gives birth to a rock band called BB & The Red Cats and they release the album Burning Life, along with the famous Summer Jamboree 2014 where Barbara was host and guest together with her band. The following year she moves to Los Angeles, where she starts acting for the American cinema, TV and TV latina. Meanwhile, hungry for knowledge, she gets another degree in Theology, that goes hand in hand with Philosophy. As a producer, in 2011 she works on the short Il Fascino Discreto della Parola, in collaboration with her cultural association “Femmine Esagerarte”, for women working in the entertainment industry, involved in cultural matters. The short is a cinema adaptation of a theatrical piece written by Maurizio Costanzo, who cameos in the movie. The short stars also Claudio Greg Gregori, from the famous comedians Lillo e Greg. In 2012 she produces the teatrical show Milonga Merini. Poesia, Tango e Follia with performances at the Ambra Theater (Garbatella), Golden Theater and Theater of Rome, and won the Ombra della Sera award. In 2021 she performs at the Hollywood Fringe Festival winning several awards, like Best International Show. In 2022 she is selected by the Solofest and by Orlando Fringe Festival where she wins Critics Choice- Best Solo Drama.
