Zachary Noah Piser (Wicked), Elena Wang (Allegiance) and Karl Josef Co (Pacific Overtures) will lead the first full industry presentations of TIANANMEN, a new musical directed by Stafford Arima (Allegiance, Altarboyz) and written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola (off-Broadway's STRAIGHT) with musical direction by Rodney Bush. The readings will be held on April 27th and 28th in midtown.

TIANANMEN is a new rock musical that follows an unlikely love story between two college students set against the dramatic backdrop of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing. The authors premiered highlights at an acclaimed concert at Feinstein's / 54 Below, and portions of the show were subsequently developed at the Broadway Dreams Foundation and The New York Theater Barn. Tony Award-Winner Ruthie Ann Miles' version of "Disloyal Daughter" has popularized that song among young performers.

Joining Piser, Wang, and Co in the cast will be Julia Abueva (Miss Saigon - West End), GRACE CHOI (Avenue Q), Marcus Choi (Sweet Charity), Katie Lee Hill (Nerds), Kendyl Ito (Matilda - Tour), Austin Ku (Pacific Overtures), Kenneth Lee (The Machine - Donmar Warehouse) and Toren Nakamura (Sweeney Todd - Lincoln Center). The invitation only readings are presented with the generous support of Matt & Cyndi Crandell, and Woolf Productions LLC.

Theater professionals who wish to attend should contact TiananmenMusical@gmail.com for additional information.
