The Green-Wood Historic Fund and Variations Theatre Group are proud to present the return engagement of The Spoon River Project, a play with music staged among spectacular 19th-century graves in the heart of Brooklyn's historic Green-Wood Cemetery. This unique site-specific theatrical production will run for 14 performances from tonight, June 13 through 30, 2013, including a Friday, June 14 after-party with members of the cast and midnight shows every Saturday.

Based on "Spoon River Anthology," Edgar Lee Masters' 1915 American masterpiece, The Spoon River Project was written and adapted for the stage by playwright and director Tom Andolora. The dances will again be choreographed by the award-winning, Broadway artist Jeffry Denman.

The Spoon River Project had its New York City premiere in June 2011 at Green-Wood - performing to sold-out houses and rave reviews by both audience members and critics. Backstage selected The Spoon River Projectas a Critic's Pick. Reviewer Erik Haagensen wrote, "We may live in a very different world than that of SpoonRiver, but Masters' truths about the human condition are eternal. The Spoon River Project delivers them with love, care, and rich, enveloping atmosphere."

The Spoon River Project will be performed under the night sky and lit by lanterns and torches. A trolley will take theatre-goers deep into the heart of Green-Wood where no city lights are visible. As the show begins, the residents of the fictional Midwestern town of Spoon River appear from over the hill. Because each of the characters has departed this world, they are now free to divulge their secrets, their private thoughts, their regrets, and the turmoil that filled their lives. Period costumes and Civil War-era songs including "Shall We Gather at the River," "Softly and Tenderly," and "In The Gloaming" set an atmospheric stage.

Saturday midnight shows include a visit to the catacombs before the performance. Please note that this show is not recommended for young children.
