CrAzYToWn: MY FIRST PSYCHOPATH to Play MITF, 7/17-30

How do you know that nice, helpful guy in the next cubicle isn't a psychopath? You don't. CrAzYToWn: my first psychopath, is creative arts therapist Jude Treder-Wolff's comic take about a shocking encounter with a deceptive, dangerous person - the nicest guy you never want to meet. It's a comic true story about an over-eager therapist trying to get over herself when nothing else seemed to be working.

CrAzYToWn: my first psychopath has played at a variety of venues since 2011, including The 2012 Chicago & San Francisco Fringe Festivals, The Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University, The Conservatory NJ in Trenton, NJ, and the Producers Club in Manhattan. The show is an official selection of the 2013 Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival and is booked at clubs, benefits and conferences around the country in 2013. CrAzYToWn: my first psychopath, includes original songs written to support the storytelling by Jude Treder-Wolff in collaboration with musical director Wells Hanley.

All performances take place at the Jewel Box Theater WorkShop, 312 West 36th Street, 4th Floor, btw 8th and 9th Avenues, New York, NY 10018. Subways: A/C/E/1/2/3/B/D/F/Q/M/N/R to 34th Street. JudeTreder-Wolff (playwright/performer) has been writing and performing solo shows since 1998. She has performed shows at a wide range of venues in New York City including The Laurie Beechman Theatre, Danny's Skylight Room, Rose's Turn, The Duplex, Gotham Comedy Club, Stand-Up New York, The New York Comedy Club, Vail-Leavitt Theater and the Ward Melville Education & Culture Center on Long Island. Regional credits include Ovations in Houston, TX, Art Space in Santa Fe, NM and Bucketworks in Milwaukee WI.

Jude's book Possible Futures: Creative Thinking For The Speed of Life was published in 2008 and she continues to present trainings about the book's themes of creative development as a response to the ways technology accelerates the pace of change in society. Her work has been published in The International Journal of Arts and Psychotherapy, Music Therapy Perspectives,Recovery Press, and the Psychodrama Network News, and she was interviewed for articles about creativity, improvisation, andapplications of the arts for healing and growth by the LA Times, Orlando Sentinel, New York Newsday, Woman's Day, and The Three Village Times.

Wells Hanley (musical direction) is a free-lance musician with a Bachelor of Music in classical piano from James Madison University and a Master of Music in jazz piano from The Manhattan School of Music. He has studied jazz piano with Bob Hallahan, Garry Dial, and Fred Hersch, and classical piano with Sophia Rosoff. He teaches jazz piano in the Charlottesville, VA area and in New York, and until the fall of 2012 taught at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Wells also served on the faculty at The New School University in NYC and at James Madison University in VA as well.

In 1998, Wells joined Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead, a group designed to foster young up and coming jazz musicians. While a member of this group, Jazz Ahead became the first jazz act to ever perform at the Spoleto Music Festival in Italy. Hanley's other Festival appearances include The North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands and The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. A regular in the Charlottesville Thursday Nights at Miller's Band from '95-'99, Wells has performed extensively with trumpeter John D'earth; a collaboration which has spanned several recordings and has led to Well's working with Carter Beauford, Dave Matthews, Bob Moses, and Tim Reynolds. Other collaborations have included performances and/or recordings with jazz luminaries such as David Liebman, Chris Potter, and Wynton Marsalis. In addition to his work as a jazz pianist, Wells sustains an accompanying business in New York City which has led to performances with Broadway singers Darius DeHaas and Tom Wopat at clubs such as Birdland and The Iridium.

The Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival's 2013 Season runs from July 15 - August 4, 2013 at the June Havoc Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 1st floor; the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 1st floor; the Main Stage Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, 4th floor; and the Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, 4th floor.

John Chatterton created the MITF in 2000, a Midtown alternative to other theatre festivals, as a way to present the finest Off-Off Broadway talent in convenience, comfort, and safety. In 2003, the MITF moved its activities to their current location, the Theatre Building on W. 36th St., where it has been successfully ensconced since. In 2008 the Festival expanded from two theatres in that building to four, at the WorkShop Theater Company and Abingdon Theatre Company spaces. The MITF's artistic emphasis is on the script itself, and therefore the Festival focuses on effective but minimal production values.
