In 1999-2000, The New Group presented the premiere of Marc Wolf's solo documentary play, Another American: Asking and Telling, which won an Obie award and went on to tour the country. Ten years later, The New Group revisits this influential piece of theater in the context of the ongoing debate about the U.S. policy on LGBT citizens in the military. Marc Wolf performs excerpts from the play and with a panel, discusses the state of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and opportunities to encourage change. The evening's moderator is?Bob Vorlicky, professor of Theatre Studies, Tisch, NYU and panelists include Janice Paran, dramaturg at The Sundance Institute?and David Hall, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (Air Force Sergeant discharged under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"). Another American: Asking and Telling premiered at The New Group on December 7, 1999 and ran until February 6, 2000. The production, written and performed by Marc Wolf and directed by Joe Mantello, features a fascinating collection of anonymous testimonies and opinions about the thorny topic of Gays and Lesbians in the Military.? The New York Times noted "a tour-de-force portrayal...Marc Wolf is a brilliant artist."??Wolf received an OBIE and was nominated for the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Another American: Asking and Telling at The New Group. He also performed Another American at Mark Taper Forum (Garland Award), Seattle Repertory Theatre, McCarter Theatre, Trinity Repertory Theatre, The Studio Theatre, Washington D.C. (Helen Hayes Award, GLAAD Award), Baltimore Center Stage, About Face Theatre (Jeff Nomination), New Conservatory Theatre (Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award), Boston Theatre Works (IRNE Award), New York Stage & Film, Provincetown Repertory Theatre, Dixon Place, Mabou Mines and at various colleges and high schools. Other New York appearances include Max in Bent at HERE, Platonov in Wild Honey at Synchronicity Space. Wolf played the role of Daniel Rivnine in the east-coast premiere of Itamar Moses' Outrage at the WilmaTheatre. His work The Road Home: Re-Membering America was commissioned by McCarter Theatre and developed with an NEA/TCG residenCy Grant. Another American: Asking and Telling is published in Political Stages: Plays that Shaped a Century (Applause Books). Wolf is a graduate of Williams College.

The New Group is currently represented Off-Broadway by the new musical The Kid is based on the true story of what happens when sex columnist Dan Savage and his boyfriend decide to start a family. Created by Andy Monroe (music), Michael Zam (book) and Jack Lechner (lyrics) and directed by Scott Elliott, The Kid features Christopher Sieber, Lucas Steele, Kevin Anthony, Susan Blackwell, Jill Eikenberry, Jeannine Frumess, Ann Harada, Tyler Maynard, Brooke Sunny Moriber, Justin Patterson and Michael Wartella. Performances began Friday, April 16 and the show enjoyed its Official Opening Night on Monday, May 10. The Kid plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement through May 29 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Schedule: Monday at 8:00 PM, Tuesday at 7:00 PM, Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 PM, with a matinee on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
