50 Shades! The Musical, the original parody (50ShadesTheMusical.com) will play The Elektra Theatre (669 Eighth Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street) beginning November 18th with opening night set for Thursday, January 9th. Directed by Al Samuels, 50 Shades! The Musical is produced by Royal Mile Entertainment, Marshall Cordell, and Andrew Asnes.

50 Shades! The Musical is about sex, humor, and bondage. Adapted from one of the most popular books of all time, it features the infamous characters ChristIan Grey and Anastasia Steele, whose intensely erotic relationship comes to laugh-out-loud life in this new parody, with original songs, for the stage.

Since author E.L. James book was published, more than 70 million copies have been sold worldwide. Universal Studios will release the film August 1, 2014.

With a book by Al Samuels, Amanda Blake Davis, Emily Dorezas, Jody Shelton, Ashley Ward, and Dan Wessels, and music and lyrics by Al Samuels, Amanda Blake Davis, Jody Shelton, Ashley Ward and Dan Wessels, 50 Shades! The Musical has Set and Costume Design by John Dunnett, Lighting Design by Herrick Goldman, and Sound Design by Matt Kraus. Joy Dewing is the casting director.

Casting will be announced shortly.

50 Shades! The Musical had a hit run at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and is currently enjoying great success on a national tour, including a week long engagement at San Francisco's Marines' Memorial Theater and an upcoming week long engagement at Chicago's Broadway Playhouse. Like the book series, 50 Shades! The Musical is not for those under the age of 18, but does not cross boundaries that would make general audiences squirm.

The novel 50 Shades of Grey sold 25 million copies in its first four months in the UK and 32 million copies in the U.S. The novel became the fastest selling paperback book ever, beating out J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series, and was on the New York Times' Best Sellers List for 16 weeks straight. Universal and Focus Features paid $5 million for the film rights and there have been more than 60 printings of the book. The book has made reading erotica on the subway acceptable.
