TheatreLAB & Deanna Danger to Launch New Series BUTCHERTOWN BURLESQUE at The Basement

TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance, is thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with popular burlesque performer Deanna Danger, a series entitled "Butchertown Burlesque," to take place at TheatreLAB's venue, The Basement. "Butchertown Burlesque" will feature a varying cast of burlesque performers and a live band.

Step back in time, begin the beguine, at Richmond, Virginia's newest nightlife experience, "Butchertown Burlesque" at The Basement! Brought to you by "Professional Purveyor of Good Times," Deanna Danger and featuring the live jazz music stylings of the "Butchertown Cats Orchestra," you'll find "Butchertown Burlesque" at The Basement throughout 2016.

In the olden days of lamp lit alleyways, dirt dusty streets and speakeasys in the gritty city of Richmond, Virginia, existed the "Butchertown Cats." A gang that ruled the "Butchertown" district, an area of Church Hill oft avoided unless one was brave enough to visit the back alley brothels, or pay a visit to one of the many butchers with swinging meat, lining the streets...

It was rough and tumble, the earnings were humble, but the jazz music rumbled, and the gin flowed like the James after a rain. "Butchertown Burlesque" brings a new nightlife experience to RVA, harkening back to yesteryear when flappers and bootleggers reigned. A new classic burlesque series performed to all live music spanning the 1920s - 1940s from the "Butchertown Cats Orchestra" appearing at The Basement.

From Deanna Danger: "I was so excited when TheatreLAB approached me to bring a burlesque show to The Basement, because I knew it was going to be a fantastic pairing! The space's underground raw building features the makings for a built-in speakeasy aesthetic, and TheatreLAB's dedication to bringing envelope-pushing theatrical productions and events immensely helps to transform The Art of the Tease into an immersive experience!"

From TheatreLAB Managing Director, Annie Colpitts: "From the moment we at TheatreLAB signed the lease for The Basement in 2014, we have been talking about what a perfect space it would be for hosting burlesque performances. When we got the chance to work with Deanna last year on our production of White Rabbit Red Rabbit, it was like a match made in heaven. Since then we have been carefully planning how and when to launch this series, and we're so delighted for it to premiere this summer!"

Tickets for the June 11th premiere event are available now on TheatreLAB's website, TheatreLABrva.org. Seating is limited; advanced tickets are available for $15, tickets purchased at the door will be $20. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for pre-sale at $25. VIP ticket packages come with prime seating, a signed show poster, and two free raffle tickets.
