Synetic Theater's Founder and Artistic director, Paata Tsikurisvili, announced the company's 2013/14 season line-up. Known for its unique, physically demanding style fusing drama, dance, acrobatics and exhilarating visuals, Synetic Theater has wowed Washington, DC-area audiences for twelve years. Since its inception, Synetic has received consistent recognition by critics as an innovative contemporary theater company, winning 24 Helen Hayes Awards and 92 nominations.

"As excited as I was to inaugurate Synetic's first full season back in 2002, I am even more excited to ring in the beginning of Synetic's second decade as Washington's premier contemporary theater," said Paata Tsikurishvili.

The line-up for the next season includes 4 productions with 3 brand-new shows and 1 production that started it all for Synetic - Hamlet ... the rest is silence. Synetic will produce a multimedia wonder in The Picture of Dorian Gray; a brand new production in Synetic's "Silent Shakespeare" series, Twelfth Night; and Derek Goldman's stage adaptation of the classic comedy, Three Men in a Boat.

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Dates: September 26 - November 3, 2013, Crystal City
Opening/Press Night: Thursday, September 26 at 8pm

Fearing the ravages of time and realizing the impermanence of youth, Dorian Gray makes a fateful wish--that his almost supernaturally lifelike portrait grow old while he remains forever young and beautiful. Synetic inventiveness and unforgettable visuals will elevate Oscar Wilde's fantastical story to yet another level.

Twelfth Night
Directed by Paata Tsikurishvili; Choreographed by Irina Tsikurishvili
Dates: January 9 - February 16, 2014, Crystal City
Opening/Press Night: Thursday, January 9 at 8pm

This 10th installment in our Silent Shakespeare series tells the tale of fraternal twins, Viola and Sebastian, separated in a strange new land. Having survived a shipwreck and believing her brother Sebastian has been lost, Viola falls hopelessly in love with Duke Orsino and disguises herself as a man to enter his services. Following sold out houses of The Tempest, Synetic take on the Shakespeare's Twelfth Night is a confluence of comedy and tragedy; a social commentary that brings laughter to sobering truths.

After our 10th Shakespearean adaptation, we will revisit our first - the multiple Helen Hayes Award-winner that started it all for Synetic. A silent rendering of the iconic tale of a grief- stricken prince torn between duty, love, conscience and fear, this revitalized production will employ all the skills and techniques we have honed and developed over the past 10 years, and promises to be a renewed pleasure for those familiar with Synetic work as well as a perfect introduction for newcomers.

Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)
Directed and Adapted by Derek Goldman; Choreographed by Irina Tsikurishvili
Dates: May 8 - June 8, 2014, Crystal City
Opening/Press Night: Thursday, May 8 at 8pm
$10 Preview Performance: Wednesday, May 7 at 8pm
Still fresh and witty after more than a century, Jerome K. Jerome's delightful travelogue tells the story of three young men suffering from a severe case of "overwork". Accompanied by their dutiful terrier Montmorency, they take a boating holiday through the country, getting into one satirically hilarious predicament after another along the way. Adapted from a novel consistently ranked as one of the funniest of all time, this production will be directed by a renowned area director Derek Goldman.
