Roanoke Children's Theatre Sets 2016-17 Season

Roanoke Children's Theatre Artistic Director Pat Wilhelms announces the 2016-2017 Season line up for the Company's 9th season.

The season kicks off with The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), from the beloved book by Roald Dahl. Music and laughter will fill the theatre during the holidays as the Company brings the colorful and zany musical adventure Seussical, the Musical to the stage. Continuing their RCT4TEENS programming, RCT will mount an original play titled Babies that addresses teen pregnancy. The line up culminates with the ever popular summer musical where the Company will stage Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play, an adaptation of the popular children's book series.

"I am so excited about this season because our shows are wonderfully fun and truthful to both kids and adults," says RCT Artistic Director Pat Wilhelms. "Roanoke Children's Theatre is theatre for everyone. This new season celebrates good stories well told. From the classic Roald Dahl's The Big Friendly Giant, to the humorous, colorful musical, Seussical, to the extremely popular Mo Willems' story of Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play. We are proud to be sharing love and laughter."

THE BFG (BIG FRIENDLY GIANT)

All dreams begin at Roanoke Children's Theatre! At least when The BFG is around!!!! Join Sophie and the dream hunting Giant as they travel to Giant Country, collecting magical dreams to fill the minds of kids while they sleep. Roald Dahl's unforgettable journey inspired the Disney and Steven Spielberg movie. Audiences can watch the enchanted story come to life right before their eyes, filling everyone with amazement and wonder.

SEUSSICAL, THE MUSICAL
"Oh, the thinks you can think" when Dr. Seuss's magical, musical extravaganza hits the RCT stage in time for the holidays. Your favorite Dr. Seuss characters including Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, JoJo, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird and other colorful characters collide and cavort in this fantastical story that provides fun for the whole family.

RCT4Teens Show: BABIES
Amelia is a high school junior who seems to have it all: great friends, a cute boyfriend and a bright future ahead of her. But one night she is faced with a life-changing decision that could throw her off track for good. Her two futures converge in this new one-act play. Using humor, this poignant play illuminates the complications of teen pregnancy.

ELEPHANT & PIGGIE'S WE ARE IN A PLAY
A singing elephant? A dancing pig? That can only mean one thing! Mo Willems' beloved and award-winning children's books, Elephant and Piggie, are coming to the stage! In this brand new vaudevillian romp of a musical, Elephant and Piggie explore the importance of friendship. Children and adults alike will be dancing in their seats as this musical experience has them doing the "Flippy Floppy Floory" all night long.

TALENT SEARCH: SEEKING SEUSSICALS

Roanoke Children's Theatre will hold a talent search on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 to cast characters from the Company's holiday musical, Seussical. Hosted at Valley View Mall from 4-8 p.m., youth actors (both male and female) will have their chance to audition for various roles. Ages 8-18 are encouraged to audition. The winners will have the opportunity to perform alongside professional actors at Roanoke's only professional theatre for young audiences!
