72 Film Fest Returns for Year Nine with Movie Mashups

Outstanding filmmaking talents will be showcased this October when 72 Film Fest returns for Year Nine. For the first time Students, Amateurs, and Pros from all across the country can compete this year. The two day festival will be held at Weinberg Center for the Arts in Maryland on Oct 10th-11th. All films will be made with 72 hours during the weekend prior, with teams writing, directing, editing, and scoring a short film based around a particular theme.

The theme for 2014: movie mashups!

Following up on 2012's theme, where 72 Fest examined the role of "The Writer", now they turn the focus on "The Producer." Each team will be given movies to mash up into a new creation. Think "Wizard of Oz meets Jaws", or since it's random, something crazier like "Sophie's Choice meets The Hangover". It's the first time since Fairy Tales that the filmmakers will have a good idea what to expect walking into the Launch Party.

"We love this year's theme, and it's going to be amazing to see how teams will mash together some of Hollywood's biggest and best films." states Producer Tim DeFoggi. "It's going to be a blast, for filmmakers, actors, and especially the audience..."

Just how the movie mashup will work will be revealed at the Launch Party on October 2nd. Teams will be able to choose their criteria online or in person in Baltimore or Frederick, Maryland.

Teams will be competing for awards designed by Roland Metal Art and Prizes including a RED Epic camera rental provided by Archai Media, Go Pro Camera, Color Suite Package by Red Giant software, Music by MusicSupervisor.com, WeGetMusic.com and more.

Returning for 2014 are comedians Mikael Johnson and Doug Powell who will once again share hosting duties on Saturday Night. Also premiering is the Film Adaptation of the Winner from 72 Script Fest 2014.

DATES:

October 2: Launch Party. Teams get their criteria in person in Frederick or Baltimore MD or online at 72FilmFest.com
October 10th: Friday Night Premieres. All entries screen tonight.
October 11th: Saturday Night Main Event. All finalists screen including the winner of 72 Script Fest. An award ceremony and after party follows.
