On the heels of the announcement of their 11th season of plays, The NOLA Project is pleased to announce applications are open for its annual High School Intensive.

For five summers now, the educators of The NOLA Project have come together to provide three weeks of the most comprehensive high school theatre training in the region. Students are selected based on their enthusiasm, desire, and potential. Students from across the New Orleans region assemble under the guidance of the city's best theater educators to learn, explore, and innovate the craft of acting. The NOLA Project High School Intensive (NPHSI) has become known as the boldest and most productive summer training experience in the New Orleans region.

NPHSI is open to all students and runs from June 27 - July 15, 2016.

"The great thing about our High School Intensive is that it's not modeled like a traditional summer camp," says NOLA Project Managing Director and NPHSI faculty member Cecile Monteyne. "It's more of a conservatory for young people."

NPHSI provides a curriculum divided into two equal tracks: Studio 1 and Studio 2. Adjudicators, core faculty, members, and directors determine which track a student enters. Both levels focus on ensemble-building, foundational acting technique, and innovation. Work in courses culminate in two fully-produced productions at Lusher Charter School's theatre facilities. Half of the students' experience at NPHSI is in the classroom. The other half: the rehearsal hall, applying what they learn in their courses to their own personal acting craft. Students take courses rooted in the foundations of: movement, acting technique, script analysis, voice and speech, character, stage combat, and devising works. Instructors are not only trained and working artists, they're also professional educators.

In 2016, the NPHSI curricular progression will be redefined and reconstructed. Faculty members will work collaboratively to create the strongest curriculum for the young actor in today's exciting theatrical landscape of diversity, devising, and risk-taking.
The program is part of the NOLA Project Education and Engagement Department. The department is designed to fulfill a fundamental component of the company's not-for-profit mission: to expand the minds, hearts, and creativity of our New Orleans community. Through audience engagement, articles, company in-service training, public workshops, special apprenticeships, community partnerships, and a renowned summer high school intensive, Education and Engagement enriches the artistry of The NOLA Project through connectivity. The NOLA Project Education and Engagement department is a community partner with Lusher Charter School, a K-12 Arts Network "Exemplary School". The NOLA Project offers special programs, opportunities and events to the Lusher community K-12 throughout the academic year and summer.
