The New Orleans Theatre Association proudly presents the New Orleans premiere of Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL at The Saenger Theatre Nov. 22 - 27, 2016. Hailed by The New York Times as "100 times better than any bedside story," this extended holiday run of a classic musical will enchant adults and children alike as part of the East Jefferson General Hospital Broadway in New Orleans 2016 - 2017 season with ten magical performances. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 10 a.m.

THE GRINCH broke box office records for two consecutive years on Broadway during its holiday engagements at the St. James and Hilton theaters in New York. Since then, more than 1.8 million theater-goers across America have been delighted by this heartwarming holiday musical, which Gannett papers hailed as "A genius of a show! A total delight for both kids and adults."

The touring companies of THE GRINCH are celebrating several special milestones this holiday season. 2016 marks the tenth anniversary of the show's debut on Broadway and the 50th anniversary of the original broadcast of the animated television classicDr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, which originally aired on CBS Dec. 18, 1966.

Audiences will discover the magic of Dr. Seuss' classic holiday tale as it comes to life live on stage. Featuring the hit songs "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas," THE GRINCH discovers there is more to Christmas than he bargained for. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the holiday-loving Whos.

Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL features magnificent sets designed by John Lee Beatty and costumes designed by Robert Morgan, inspired by Dr. Seuss' original book. Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason's music and book breathe new life into this timeless story.

The 2016 production is directed by Matt August and choreographed by Bob Richard, based on the original choreography by John DeLuca and originally created by three-time Tony Award® winning director Jack O'Brien.

Saenger Theatre

Originally built in 1927, the Saenger Theatre was designed to reflect a magnificent 15th century Italian courtyard and gardens, with a starlit evening sky ceiling, arched surroundings, statuary, columns and decorative moldings. In January 2012, the City of New Orleans, Canal Street Development Corporation (CSDC) and ACE Theatrical Group formed a public-private partnership to carry out a $52 million restoration project after the iconic theatre was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina. The Saenger Theatre reopened in the fall of 2013, authentically restored to the finest level of detail, with state-of-the-art technological improvements and updated first-class amenities.
