Le Petit Theatre brings the long-running Tony Award-winning revue Forbidden Broadway to the Main Stage November 5-19. This hilarious and ever-evolving show, tailored for New Orleans audiences, features parodies of hits and hitmakers old and new that will strike the funny bone of even those with only the most glancing knowledge of the Great White Way. And for even the most hardened aficionado, it's fall-down funny. Cast members Leslie Castay, Dianna Duffy, Vatican Lokey and Cliff Thompson - accompanied by one-man-piano-orchestra Jesse Reeks - sing and dance their way through rapid-fire costume changes and madcap impressions in a loving satire of Broadway's biggest songwriters and stars.

According to director William Selby, himself a veteran of the show in multiple capacities, 'Our New Orleans version grills everything local audiences of all ages will know and love, from Ethel Merman and Carol Channing to Wicked, Jersey Boys, Hairspray, Annie, Mary Poppins and Liza Minelli. Of the 12 previous productions I've done of this show, this is among the highest caliber talent I've worked with. I'm thrilled to be directing them - they're the real thing.'

Forbidden Broadway was created in 1981 by Gerard Alessandrini, a then-unemployed actor looking for a way to showcase his talents. His assemblage of musical parodies turned into New York's longest-running musical comedy revue and has won Drama Desk, Obie, Outer Critics Circle awards. Its two-decade Off-Broadway run became known for talented but as-yet-unrecognized actors who later went on to Broadway, television and film stardom. Updated regularly, the show has had several editions, countless revisions, three New York City performance spaces, several national and international tours and thousands of special performances.

"Consistently riotous!" according to The New York Times. "Gut-bustingly funny! It's a forbidden pleasure," says the NY Post.

Tickets, ranging from $32 to $50, are available through the Le Petit Theatre Box Office, either by phone at 504.522.2081 or online at www.lepetittheatre.org. Student and group pricing are also available.
