Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Stephen Schwartz's groundbreaking musical, Nashville's Trevecca Nazarene University's theatre department will present seven performances of Godspell October 27-November 5 at the Boone Convocation Center on the TNU campus at 333 Murfreesboro Road.

"Godspell's creative energy radiates in a stream of well-known songs, sparked by the international hit, 'Day By Day,' says Jeffrey Frame, assistant professor of theatre at TNU. "Through TNU cast's rich performances of 'Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,' 'All For The Best,' 'All Good Gifts,' 'Turn Back, O Man' and 'By My Side,' the parables of Jesus Christ come brilliantly to life in imaginative ways."

According to Frame, TNU's production design for the show is simple: the set design, costumes, and props are being constructed chiefly from recycled materials.

"Our leitmotif for this particular production is even simpler: 'He makes all things new.' New world, new vision, new life," he explains.

"Drawing from various theatrical traditions, Godspell is a groundbreaking and unique tribute celebrating the life of Jesus, with a message of tolerance, grace, hope, and love."

Conceived and Originally Directed by John-Michael Tebelak, Godspell has music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

Performances will run October 27, 28 and 29 and November 3, 4 and 5. All evening performances will begin at 7 p.m. except for the Friday, November 4 performance, which will begin at 8 p.m. There will also be a special afternoon matinee performance at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 5. Each performance will be presented in the Boone Convocation Center on the campus of TNU.
