What happens when you combine four performers, treasured Broadway tunes, pop-up charts brimming with backstage trivia and outrageous remarks on stage? POP UP MUSICAL, a Broadway revue with a sense of humor previewing January 21, 22, opening January 23 continuing through June 14, 2015 at the Plymouth Playhouse.

A break-out show from the 2012 Fringe Festival, POP UP MUSICAL is presented in the style of VH1's Pop-Up Video series (and perhaps a bit of Mystery Science Theatre 3000). Four vocalists take you on a high-energy, hilarious romp through 24 of Broadway's most famous tunes. Expect such gems as "Edelweiss" from Sound of Music, "All that Jazz" from Chicago, "Luck Be A Lady" from Guys and Dolls and Memory from Cats. The show is packed with witty writing, clever delivery, a great mix of tongue-in-cheek humor and trivia pop-ups presented on low-tech screens and handmade posters interspersed throughout the show.

Consider by audiences as "Not your typical night at the theater," POP UP MUSICAL was created by Twin Cities actors/vocalists Jennifer Ecikes, Judi Gronseth, Kevin Werner Hohlstein and Timm Holmly. Many years ago, while in a rehearsal for another Broadway revue, Pop Up Musial was finally written collaboratively by the four singers, in 2012. The show made its debut that same year at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Selling out four of five performances and considered one of the top five shows of 2012, it received rave reviews from both the critics and audience. The Pioneer Press exclaimed " A must see...utterly charming," City Pages stated "a fun and funny production," Twin Cities Daily Planet exclaimed "...a fun musical revue for the whole family." Describe by audiences as "delightful, refreshing, smart and entertaining, fans love the new twist on their old favorites. Audiences raved "The show ended and you wanted more."

In 2013, POP UP MUSICAL added new songs to lengthen the show with performances in venues such as Chanhassen Dinner Theatre's Fireside Theater, James J. Hill House and the Weber Center, La Crosse, WI.

A break-out show from the 2012 Twin Cities Fringe Festival, POP UP MUSICAL is one of the first Fringe shows to be fully developed and produced for a major stage. Produced by Plymouth Playhouse, POP UP MUSICAL has a 22 week run, opening January 23 continuing through June 14, 2015.
