Conrad Tao, one of the most musically intelligent pianists of his generation makes his debut with the MPO in Szymanowski’s Fourth “Symphony”, called by the composer “nearly a concerto”. Following intermission comes one of the world’s most beloved works in the entire symphonic repertory, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, music of lyrical fervour, elfin enchantment, shadowy nostalgia and exultant joy.
