Snowlion Repertory Company, Portland's newest professional theater, is pleased to announce its next production will be the New England premiere of the play A Child's Guide to Innocence by New York playwright Vincent Sessa.

A Child's Guide to Innocence poignantly explores one of the most important issues we face today: how does one find joy and happiness in a violent, cruel and seemingly evil world? In three scenes, a trio of actresses play three generations from an Italian-American family in New York struggling with the events of their lives, events that will reverberate through the ages. We meet three sisters in tension-filled 1944, a mother and her daughters in chaotic 1975, and a mother and her granddaughters in disorienting 1995. Through the lyricism and imagery of the play, we examine whether it is possible for innocence to survive and indeed flourish. The New York Times called this timely, provocative play "as delicate and nuanced a drama as you'll find, its three actresses telling a sublime intergenerational tale beautifully...It's a lovely portrait of how ordinary lives can be defined by a few pivotal moments, of how the world's great events can have a profound impact at a very small, personal level."

Directed by Al D'Andrea, A Child's Guide to Innocence features strong, moving performances by local actresses Laura Houck, Elizabeth Lardie, and Kathryn Perry.

It will be performed at the Ludcke Auditorium, a lovely performance space on the Portland campus of the University of New England, at 716 Stevens Avenue, Portland. The show opens Friday March 15 at 8:00 p.m. and plays for 2 weekends only:

Friday March 15 at 8 p.m., Saturday March 16 at 8 p.m., Sunday March 17 at 2 p.m.
Friday March 22 at 8 p.m., Saturday March 23 at 8 p.m., Sunday March 24 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and $18 (student/senior). For tickets or more information, visit www.snowlionrep.org or call (207) 518-9305.
