For the final show of its 2010 season, Maine State Music Theatre will produce the famous, farcical musical, SPAMALOT. The skewed and sung version of the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table will play from August 11 to August 28. The musical is "lovingly ripped off" from the popular 1975 classic film, Monty Python and The Holy Grail. Tickets are available online at www.msmt.org, by phone at (207) 725-8769, or at the box office at Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus.

MSMT is privileged to be one of five regional theatres given the rights to produce SPAMALOT. The show recounts the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and their search for the Holy Grail, but with a Broadway twist! Complete with beautiful showgirls, exaggerated French soldiers, and hilarious song and dance numbers, SPAMALOT will make audiences laugh more quickly than the terminal velocity of an unladen swallow.

The show is the winner of the 2005 Best Musical Tony Award, has been nominated for 14 Tony Awards, has been on tour in the United States, The West End of London, and in Las Vegas. Writer, lyricist, and former Monty Python comedy troupe member Eric Idle's contributions to the show helped win it the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Lyrics.

SPAMALOT Director and Monty Python devotee Marc Robin expresses "My goal is to take material that many "Pythons" know and make it fun and accessible to audiences that have never seen it, to tap in to the universal qualities of the "Python" humor and the allure of the musical comedy, and to create a new fan base." Past MSMT audiences will recognize Robin for his direction of last year's THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. When speaking about SPAMALOT, Robin remarks, "It's wit, cleverness, satire and insanity [is] sidesplittingly "high"larious and I [can't] get enough."

Leading the Knights of the Round Table as King Arthur is Nat Chandler, whose past credits at MSMT include the title role in The Scarlet Pimpernel. Gracing the stage as the Lady of the Lake is newcomer Daniella Dalli. MSMT Artistic Director Charles Director steps out of the director's chair and into the limelight to play King Arthur's companion, Patsy. Jeremy Webb returns to play the cowardly Sir Robin. Portraying the Historian, among other characters, is recent MSMT favorite, Chuck Ragsdale. Rounding out the Round Table are Adam Pelty as Sir Lancelot, Curt Dale Clark as Sir Galahad, and Steve Calzaretta as Sir Bedevere. As is tradition to Monty Python, many of the cast will play a variety of characters in addition to their main identities.

Ed Reichert once again picks up the reigns of Music Director, and assisting him will be Sam Bagala. Robert A. Kovach, whose past MSMT credits include last year's CRAZY FOR YOU and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, returns as Set Designer. Lighting Designer Paul Black once again puts his skills to use after doing so for this season's CHICAGO.

Unique to the MSMT production of SPAMALOT is the use of costumes from the original London West End version of the show. Coordinating the costumes for the show will be Kurt Alger.

SPAMALOT will run from August 11th-28th at the Pickard Theater, and is planned to move to the Fulton Theatre after completing its run at MSMT. To purchase tickets for the MSMT production please go to www.msmt.org, call (207) 725-8769, or visit the box office located at the Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus.
