Lyle Lovett has recorded thirteen albums and released 25 singles throughout his career. His highest hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, "Cowboy Man", reached number 10 on the United States charts in 1986.

Lovett has won four Grammy Awards including Best Country Album in 1996 for The Road to Ensenada, Best Country Duo/Group with Vocal in 1994 for his collaboration with Texas swing group Asleep at the Wheel for "Blues for Dixie", Best Pop Vocal Collaboration in 1994 for his work on "Funny How Time Slips Away" with Al Green and Best Male Vocal Album in 1989 for Lyle Lovett and His Large Band.

In addition to his music career, Lovett has appeared in a number of films and television shows. He also received an "Esky", an award fromEsquire magazine in which the magazine said, "The secret of Lyle Lovett's endurance comes down to the three C's: class, charisma and consistency."
