SoCals longest running production of The Nutcracker returns for its 47th magical Holiday Season. Westside Ballet of Santa Monicas talented pre-professional dancers share the world class Broad Stage with seven accomplished professional guest artists to present nine enchanting ballet productions, beginning Thanksgiving Weekend. One of one of few Nutcracker ballets danced to live music, The Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra masterfully weaves Tchaikovskys majestic score with the artistry of Westside's breathtakingly costumed dancers. Performances always sell out, so we encourage you to buy early!Join Claras magical voyage with swirling snowflakes; the shimmering Snow Queen; angels gliding on clouds; waltzing flowers; small Polichinelles popping out from underneath Mother Gingers giant skirt; and exotic national dances (Spanish chocolate, Arabian coffee, Peppermints, Chinese tea, marzipan Mirlitons).From the Victorian-style party scene to the glittering Sugar Plum Fairy, its the traditional full-length ballet in two acts. A close rendition of George Balanchines homage to the original Nutcracker danced in 19th-Century Russia, Westsides founder Yvonne Mounseywho created the Nutcracker role of Center Spanish during the peak of her career as principal dancer with New York City Balletbrought his Holiday Classic to Southern California in 1973.Kids 2 and under sit on Moms lap for free!
