The Last Night of Ballyhoo is set in the upper class German-Jewish community living in Atlanta, GA in 1939. ‘Gone with the Wind’ is about to premiere. Adolph Freitag (owner of the Dixie Bedding Company), his sister Boo, sister-in-law Reba and nieces Lala and Sunny are a Jewish family so highly assimilated to the aristocratic southern population that they have a Christmas tree in the front parlor, but are looking forward to Ballyhoo, a lavish cotillion ball at their restrictive country club.
