Jacksonville's Players by the Sea opened their production of the classic Eugene O'Neil play, A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN yesterday, March 12th. The production, directed by Gordon Goede runs through March 27th.

In MISBEGOTTEN, three outcast characters do battle with the deepest yearnings of the human heart during one whiskey-soaked night. Set on a dilapidated Connecticut farm in the early 1920's, this drama focuses on Josie, a strapping country girl whose outward bravado masks a sensitive core; her crafty, hot-tempered Irish father and their landlord, Jim Tyrone, a broken-down actor and alcoholic who is haunted by memory and unable to express his love for Josie.

After the original 1957 Broadway production, the play has been revived frequently, including a 1973 production in which Jason Robards, Jr. and Colleen Dewhurst made an indelible impression. A Moon for the Misbegotten was most recently revived in 2006.

The cast stars Greg Morgan, Zeina Salame, Jason Collins, Joshua Taylor, and Thomas Trauger.

Gordon Goede is the Founding and Artistic Director of Theatre Three Repertory Company in Fresno, California. He earned his B/A. degree in Speech and Drama at Jacksonville University and did graduate work at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena California.

Gordon produced and directed in excess of 325 productions ranging from Broadway musicals to Pulitzer Prize-winning comedies and dramas including several notable opera productions, He directed the highly acclaimed production of LaBoheme for the renowned Music From Bear Valley Festival in Bear Valley, California. In October of 2000, The Fresno Arts Council honored him with the "horizon award" recognizing his years of excellence in service to the community.
