Acclaimed American singer Deborah J. Carter and Mamelo Gaitanopoulos Sextet will perform special arrangements by Mamelo to the great hits of the first jazz opera "Porgy and Bess" in the "Hot Jazz" series this upcoming December. Among the hits that will be performed are "It Ain't Necessarily So", "I Loves You Porgy", "I Got Plenty o' Nuttin" and of course the everlasting "Summretime".

Deborah J. Carter is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, was born in the U.S.A and grew up in Hawaii and Japan, sings in the Metropolitan Jazz genre which, in her own words, "It's a kind of jazz that reflects the energy and spirit of any capital city in this 21st century that has absorbed the influences and cosmopolitan aspects of its inhabitants".

So far she released 5 solo CDs, when the latest of them combines contemporary arrangements that move between swing, fusion and latin music. She performed at the North Sea Jazz festival, as well as the jazz festivals in Azerbaijan's Baku and Ukraine's Kiev. Additionally, she performed in several lead and supporting roles in Broadway musicals, sang as a guest artist with a number of established European jazz orchestras: Netherlands' Metropole Orchestra, the HR (Frankfurt Radio) Big Band, Frankfurt and Berlin's Big Band Orchestras, the Berlin Opera House Symphony Orchestra among others. Deborah often appears as a guest in prestige television shows, performs around the world and gives jazz vocals workshops and masterclasses in music colleges.

Deborah was described by the Music Maker magazine as "absolutely top-class" and she is one of the most fascinating and dynamic vocalists in today's jazz scene. Also, Deborah is currently the Professor of Jazz Vocals at the Musikene Music Conservatory in San Sebastian, Spain.
