In keeping with the current focus on fiscal rectitude, Roscommon Drama Group brings you a stunning 2 for 1 offer at the end of November with their much anticipated Autumn production. It's laughter all the way from November 25th to 27th with a selection of 2 one-act comedies; "Bang, You're Dead" by Paul Reakes and "Last Panto in Little Grimley" by David Tristram.

Take a husband, wife, secretary and burglar, throw some intrigue and romance into the mix and the result is "Bang, You're Dead". Set in mild-mannered suburbia Paul Reakes hilarious tale of inept intrigue sets the tone for the evening. Wife Lydia (Colette Conlon) and husband Theo's (Stan Hawkins) not so perfect marriage may be about to come to an abrupt end courtesy of the shenanigans of boyfriend Marcus (Brian McGovern), but all is not as it seems, and no one accounted for the intervention of the mild mannered Amelia Trim (Bernie Maher).

Picking up the storyline from the previously produced "Last Tango", David Tristram's "Last Panto in Little Grimley" again focuses on the fortunes (or misfortunes) of the Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society, this time hoping to put on a panto. Membership is still only four and it now seems a sex comedy may be the only hope of survival - but how will the locals react? Joyce (Mareád Nally), Gordon (Kieran Madden), Margaret (Marie Conroy) and Bernard (Tommy Murray) must put past disagreements aside to ensure success, which can be difficult when you can't even agree on a date for first rehearsal!

With Noreen Hawkins flawless direction and razor sharp scripts, these fantastically funny comedies burst into life and deliver a bellyful of laughs that will delight audiences. Set design and construction will be overseen by Jim Conlon and Eddie Miley, with members of Roscommon Drama Group coordinating props, wardrobe, make-up and stage management. Roscommon Drama Group would like to thank the local business community for their continued generous support.

Don't miss Bang, You're Dead and Last Panto in Little Grimley, at Roscommon Arts Centre on Thursday 25th, Friday 26th & Saturday 27th November at 8pm. Tickets €14/€12. Booking on (090) 6625824.

The Unwanted play a pre-Christmas shindig
The trio of Cathy Jordan (Dervish), Seamie O'Dowd and Rick Epping, which make up the band ‘The Unwanted' plan a shindig in time for the festive season on Thursday 2nd December at Roscommon Arts Centre. Together, The Unwanted demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation of the music of both the Old World and the New, and together they have created a seamless fusion of these traditions, showing that the process of transformation arising from the musical ebb and flow along the Atlantic Fringe continues today. Wherever they perform, The Unwanted are finding that they are welcome and very much wanted, indeed.

Featuring Roscommon-born Cathy Dervin, lead singer for acclaimed group Dervish, whose soaring voice moves effortlessly between sean-nós, Appalachian ballad and contemporary folksong, lending rich accompaniment on bodhrán, bouzouki and bones. Seamie O'Dowd (guitar, fiddle, dobro) is well known both from his years with Dervish and from his performing with the best of Irish traditional musicians, such as piper Liam O'Flynn and accordionist Máirtín O'Connor. Californian native Rick Epping (harmonica, concertina, banjo, mandolin, jaw harp), been playing the music of both Ireland and the US since childhood. Having played with musical greats as varied as Bluegrass founder Bill Monroe, Texas bluesman Mance Lipscomb and Irish accordionist Joe Cooley, Rick brings to the group a wealth of experience and authentic style. If you're after a genuinely electrifying night of music, then book your tickets now. Call Roscommon Arts Centre box office on 090 6625824.
