Musicians Bring Baroque, South American Program to Roscommon Arts Centre Tonight

As part of the Spring programme at Roscommon Arts Centre, an informal evening of classical music will take place tonight, 28th January. Featuring three hugely talented musicians - Katherine Hunka, Dermot Dunne and Malachy Robinson - the evening will feature a mix of Baroque, South American music and some film classics.

Violinist Katherine Hunka is the leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra where she regularly directs and gives solo performances. She formed an accordion and violin duo with the extraordinary Dermot Dunne in 2007. They have toured Ireland and China and performed in London playing everything from Baroque to Piazzolla. Malachy Robinson is Ireland's most sought after and versatile double bassist. He is a member of the ICO and the Crash Ensemble and performs a great deal of baroque music. He and Dermot are also founder members of Lunfardia, a band performing South American music throughout Ireland. The three performers come together for an informal evening of Baroque, South American, Klezmer, and film classics. Their style is informal and chatty and it promises to be an evening packed with gems. This evening of music is a perfect introduction for anyone who is interested in having a great night out listening to some of the best music from around the world. From the acclaimed writer and director of In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, Martin McDonagh's 'A Skull in Connemara' comes to Roscommon Arts Centre on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th February. Described as 'The Quenton Tarantino of the Stage' by critics, Martin McDonagh's plays including 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' and 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' are firm favourites with Roscommon audiences. This play some to Roscommon as part of a nationwide tour and straight after a stint in the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.

Part of 'The Leenane Trilogy', 'A Skull in Connemara' is one of McDonagh's funniest plays and with Decadent's inimitable depiction, this production will have you laughing out loud, squirming in your seats and possibly avoiding graveyards! Johnny Carroll returns to Roscommon Arts Centre next Saturday 18tyh January, following a sell-out concert there last year. This time around Johnny welcomes his friend and singing legend Dessie O'Halloran of 'Say You Love Me' fame to join him for what promises to be another memorable night of music, song and stories.
