Next week, New Theatre is delighted to welcome BAKRU Theatre company back with their new production of Michael Marshall's Happy Birthday Jacob. This touching and humorous play interrogates what it means to be 'a family' in a creative and entertaining way.

Happy Birthday Jacob by Michael Marshall

Dates: August 15th - 26th, 7.30pm

Tickets: €16 (€12.50 concession)

About the Show:
Back by popular demand! Happy Birthday Jacob is the story of two brothers, Jacob and Lucas, who, after being abandoned at a young age, have been forced to develop a life which consists of secrecy and strict routine. The story exists between the father leaving and the foreboding imminence of his return. That is until Mary, their mother, arrives abruptly, which slowly severs the bond between the two brothers. Lucas's fantastical notions of a family reunited directly clashes with Jacob's embodied reality of rejection and abandonment. Jacob with the help of Terry a neighbouring girl try to keep this constructed family afloat while Lucas drifts towards an idea that he has only been able fantasise. Time is ticking closer to Jacob's 18th birthday, a day in which everything that has been built must fall.

Raymond & Dutch in the Case of the Last Green Bag by Oisin McCartan
Dates: August 28th - September 2nd

Tickets: €16 (€12.50 concession)

About the Show:
With the future prospects of their generation uncertain, and a mysterious disappearance of their most valuable possession after a party the previous night, two broke, bored, and otherwise unoccupied actors take up the mantle of previous great men before them and pretend to be tougher than they are.
With nothing but their wits, endless free time, and enough liquor to make Borris Yeltzen think twice, they take on the mantle of film noir and shift through the characters of the city's underbelly (all strangely the same person) on their final case.

Writer: Oisin Mc Cartan
Director: Adam Byrne
Stage Manager: Laura White
Featuring Shane Laird, Oisin McCartan, Kieren Walsh, Joanna Kelly

Test Copy written & performed by Roseanna Purcell

Dates: September 4th - 9th, 7.30pm

Tickets: €16 (€12.50 concession)

About the Show:
Test Copy is a new piece of theatre set in the bowels of Tipperary, Ireland. This isn't an examination of the well-known quiet, country life but rather of the untempered frenzy of youth and the struggle of standing out, for reasons good or bad, amongst a melting pot of peers and diverse personalities.
We follow Louise Fennessy, just one of 89 Transition year girls in her year, in St. Catherine's Convent Secondary School which hosts 742 female students in total. Through her we encounter the nature of this powder keg environment in a culture where organized fights provide the on-site entertainment and the roughest of reputations instils respect.

Written and performed by Roseanna Purcell
Directed by Pat Kiernan
Produced by Nenagh Arts Centre
Choreography - Jazmin Chiodi
Lighting Design - Pius McGrath
