Now launching its second season, Opera In The Heights has announced the 2017-18 lineup for their young professional's arts subscription series, CIRCLE OF FIFTHS, a collaborative project designed to bring awareness of various arts organizations to the enthusiastic, young professional audience member. As discussed below by Founder Paige Myrick, this all-inclusive, diverse arts pass will immerse the audience member in a wide variety of performance genres present in the world of Houston entertainment: music, theatre, opera, and dance.

Founded last year by Houston arts-enthusiast and Executive Director of Opera in the Heights, Paige Myrick, this performance subscription series began as a concert series involving five venues in the Houston area. After receiving positive feedback from audience members and performing arts organizations alike, Myrick experienced overwhelming support and requests for participation by several other Houston arts organizations. This led to the development of the now expanded series of ten venues offering a source of connection, community, and artistic variety to young professionals in the Houston area.

Akin to the heavily millennial-populated music festival scene that includes a variety of artists, this arts pass allows the audience member to purchase a single subscription to sample several distinctive venues, genres, and styles of performance art. One $119 subscription purchase offers the audience member their choice of five performances, while a $209 purchase ensures the audience member attendance to ten performances. This setup is ideal for a newcomer to the Houston arts scene who has yet to find their favorite spot in town, the avid audience member looking to branch out to new genres, or the individual hoping to build connections in the world of Houston performance art.

CIRCLE OF FIFTHS Founder Paige Myrick

Myrick articulates the appeal of this subscription series saying, "[Circle of Fifths] is really aligned with the psychology of 25-40 year old young professionals that are working and have some income, but are still building their network". This project is crafted around the needs of the curious, eager individual wanting to be introduced to new environments of Houston art. After witnessing several small to mid-sized arts organizations looking to cultivate a younger audience demographic, Myrick was inclined to create this sampler plate experience of theatre, music, dance, and community for the young professional.

Myrick had noticed that in regard to the small and mid-sized arts organizations in Houston, audiences generally overlapped and each company had an already established core group of young professionals in attendance. By pulling from the programmed seasons of these various organizations, Circle of Fifths is offering young professionals the opportunity to sample the environment, social scene, and artistic style of ten successful arts organizations. Additionally, the subscription purchase includes supplements such as drink tickets, guest passes, and special event invites.

In regards to the overarching theme of this project, Myrick expressed "The arts can really function to bring people together, and that's essentially what we do when we go to an event. We sit in the hall, or the gallery, or the theatre, or the opera house, and everyone is enjoying an experience together-a common experience... that has a lot of potential to really bond people". This membership structured arts pass will simultaneously offer the audience member financial, social, and artistic benefits while supporting local arts organizations that are desiring to discover a new demographic of audience member. If you are a young, artistically interested individual, looking to meet like-minded, community-oriented people, this arts pass is exactly what you need.

Paige Myrick is the Executive Director at Opera in the Heights, and brings to Circle of Fifths her wealth of experience from organizations such as The Van Cliburn Foundation, Fort Worth Opera, The Boston Conservatory, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, and the Houston Chamber Choir. Myrick studied Music and Arts Administration at Texas Christian University.

Circle of Fifths spans ten Houston arts organizations and four genres of performance. There is a Pick-5 subscription offered that allows audience members to pick any five performances at $119 or ten performances at $209. These subscriptions will include event invitations, a "bring a friend" pass, and complimentary drinks. Tickets are on sale July 7 for the 2017-18 lineup listed below.
