Space is limited, and trips sell out quickly.

The Playhouse's Best of Broadway tour allows travelers to see newly opening Broadway shows. The packages include round-trip non-stop coach airfare on Delta Airlines from Des Moines to New York City, three nights at the Renaissance Times Square in the heart of the theatre district, and three theatre tickets. Travelers enjoy a relaxing, educational travel experience as John Viars, veteran New York guide and Playhouse executive director, employs his unique knowledge and theatre expertise to guide an unforgettable theatre tour.

On Thursday evening, the group will see "Hello, Dolly!," the classic musical about a meddlesome matchmaker who brings together a young clerk and a widowed milliner while at the same time making sure she herself gets to marry the client, a wealthy Yonkers merchant. The enchanting score includes such favorites as "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Before the Parade Passes By," and, of course, the title song. The much-anticipated show stars Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce.

A second show will be chosen by The Playhouse for the group to see together on Friday night. Travelers choose the show they would like to see Saturday evening.

Best of Broadway tours leave on a Thursday morning and provide plenty of time to explore and shop before returning on a Sunday evening. New York veterans may come and go as they please, while first-timers can opt for a variety of group tours. A selection of dining and sightseeing options, such as a welcome dinner, a scenic and informative Gray Line Bus Tour, and a serene and breathtaking New York Harbor Cruise are offered, each for an additional fee.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
