1979 | Best Musical |
Starring Jasmine Shanise and Rodney Honeycutt, this emotionally charged narrative confronts questions of bias and injustice.
Miss Mona Stangley and her Girls have arrived in Downtown Arlington to have a darn-tootin' great time opening Theatre Arlington's 47th season with the award-winning musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. This charming, fun-loving musical by Carol Hall, Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, based loosely on the real-life Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas, recounts the story of Miss Mona's cozy little brothel that was popular with senators, mayors and football teams and protected by the local sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd. Times are good for Miss Mona's Girls until a TV evangelist's cameras and righteous indignation interfere. The lively tale is told with a bit of bawdy humor and high-energy production numbers, with sweet ballads and sentimentality thrown in, and is meant for mature audiences but as Miss Mona says, a?oethere's nothing dirty going on.a??
Next up at Greater Lewisville Community Theatre - The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas opens June 7th and runs through June 30. With book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, and music and lyrics by Carol Hall, this rollicking hootenanny of a musical is sure to please! Starring Kristal Seid as Mona, Alex Rain as Sheriff, Cherish Robinson as Jewel, Gary E. Payne as the Governor and Tom DeWester as Melvin P. Thorpe. Wrangling over 50 unique characters, the ensemble includes Amanda Brown, Brian Christensen, Michael Christian, Jared Culpepper, Brigitte Goldman, Christina Kudlicki Hoth, Tomas Moquete, Stephanie M. Ormston, Jenna Smith, Jason Steele, Jennifer Steele and Carlos Strudwick. This multiple award-winning cast is joined onstage by a live band featuring Tanner Peterson, Bill Zauner, Kami Lujan, Bethany Hardwick and more!
Theatre Arlington's 47th season has something for everyone! Executive Producer, Steven D. Morris, is thrilled to announce the line-up for the 2019-2020 season. There will be great musical comedies, a fun new holiday show, wonderful family-friendly children's programming and classic plays that need to be seen again. This season Theatre Arlington will continue to work hard to improve the patron's experience and the quality of every production. The Theatre is excited to announce that they will be hiring more professional Equity actors in each production as well as skilled designers and talented live musicians. That's not all Morris is happy to announce - this season will be the inaugural year for a new Cabaret Series which will bring the metroplex's best singers and musicians to Theatre Arlington to perform in an intimate environment. If it has been awhile since you've visited downtown Arlington, now is the time to find your way and come home to Theatre Arlington!
