The Hartt School Presents Hansel and Gretel
The Hartt School presents E. Humperdinck's beloved opera Hansel and Gretel Thursday, February 3, through Saturday, February 5, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, February 6, at 3:00 PM, in Millard Auditorium. This undergraduate main stage opera tells the well-known Grimm's fairy tale of a poor broom-maker's children who become lost in the woods, get captured by an evil witch, and use their wits to escape. Set to the lilting melodies and lush orchestration of famous turn-of-the-century composer E. Humperdinck, this production is sure to delight! Hartt Dance Division students also appear in this production in a section choreographed by Dance Division Director Stephen Pier. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups. The Hartt School Community Division presents a Family Concert with Susan Reed on Sunday, February 6, at 3:00 PM at St. Thomas Seminary, 467 Bloomfield Ave., Bloomfield, CT. Songwriter Susan Reed, with Opus 89, Connecticut Children's Chorus, and HCD Winds, perform a family concert to benefit the Fund for Access and the David Einfeldt Fund. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected.

The Hartt School presents a Beethoven String Quartet Lecture and Master Class with Samuel Rhodes on Wednesday afternoon , February 9, time TBA (please see Hartt web site for exact time), Auerbach Auditorium in Hillyer Hall on the University of Hartford campus. Samuel Rhodes, violist of the Juilliard String Quartet, gives a lecture on the Beethoven String Quartet, assisted by musicians of Hartt's 20/20 Honors Chamber Music program. Following the lecture, he will give a quartet and viola master class, open for audience observation. Admission is free.

The Hartt School presents The Brentano String Quartet, the third concert of the 2010-2011 Richard P. Widely hailed as one of the most exciting quartets to appear in many years, the Brentano is making headlines with its imaginative programming and dazzling virtuosity.
