Connecticut's 'ridiculously entertaining' non profit theatre company for family audiences will present a Pop-Up Theatre experience debuting two new mini musical as part of the Milford Arts Council's MAC FEST on Saturday, September 19th on the green in Downtown Milford.
The MAC FEST is a single-day festival celebrating the Milford Arts Council, its programming and community partnerships, inviting the community to "Be a Part of Art." The event features juried hand-crafted and fine art vendors, arts activities, lessons, workshops, contests, plain air painting, flash mob, food, music, dance and more.
Created especially for the festival, Pantochino's Pop-Up Theatre is presenting 'tiny theatre in a tent' which will feature two new mini musicals playing throughout the day in rotating repertory. "Cute Baby" and "Overnight Donut Fryer" both feature book and lyrics by Bert Bernardi and music by Justin Rugg.
Five actors play the parts with each performance being played for five audience members at a time. "I was inspired by Theatre for One, a mobile theatre experience for one actor and one audience member," said Bernardi. "We'll be performing our tiny musicals for one 'family' at a time," he added.
Both mini musicals were created, developed and workshopped earlier this summer by the young actors in Pantochino's Theatre Games camp. "Cute Baby" is tongue-in-cheek 1920's tale of a teenage orphan who disguises herself as an infant and achieves fame and fortune. "Overnight Donut Fryer" is an urban fantasy about a down-on-his-luck young man in Rhode Island who's life may or may not change when he takes a job frying donuts in a local grocery store. "We've tightened up the stories and songs and they're a perfect, unique theatre experience for families attending MAC FEST," said Rugg.
Featured in the cast are Rugg, Jimmy Johansmeyer, Shelley Marsh Poggio, George Spelvin and Mary Mannix.
The MAC FEST takes place on Milford Green, in the center of Downtown Milford on Saturday, September 19th from 10am to 8pm. Pantochino's mini musicals will play from Noon to 4pm. More information on the festival is available at www.milfordarts.org.
